It looks like there are some openings/windows on the side of this "pod" which could hide sensors pointing towards the front wheels. Sensors of some sort to monitor brake temperature (provided it makes any sense to locate such sensors so far away from the measurement location) ?

Many thanks. That looks spot on. Laser ride height sensor assembly then, definitely. One "mystery" solved thanks to you

looking at some of the race footage again and also thinking about the on-board video that i posted on this thread before the race, where we were noting how abnormally early the audi was braking, well, it looks in the race too as if the audi always got caught up on the braking periods. they seem to slightly get away from the toyota even on most of the accelerating zones, although they theoretically have 2 MJ less, as well as on the straights, as expected, but they always get caught up really badly and quickly on breaking zones.

Low downforce and crappy grip will do that.

yes, it makes sense, but it was really exaggerated, which tells 1 good thing and 1 bad thing. the good thing is there obviously is a lot more theoretical performance in the car, and if audi suffered grip issues that weren't temperature-related (like those suffered by everyone), it means the car can be extremely fast, relative to the competition, when functioning at optimal level. the bad thing, of course, is quite obvious: on the dress rehearsal for lm, audi are very far from extracting full potential out of their package.

Sport Auto report that Audi are currently testing new software upgrades and some changes to their MGU to try and perfect it's reliability and effectiveness.

Well the whole article doesn't sound too optimistic for all of the three manufacturers. Everyone has some (serious) problems, at least Porsche could just change back to the old 2015 battery cell pack. The final test of the new Audi components will probably be at the Le Mans test day, without a proper endurance test.

Audi have at least one 30 hour test at Aragon next week, and they'll be there most of the week, too.

I'm sure the teams could require/demand their tire choices very shortly(one day before FP1) before an European round of WEC(if they can do it from France to South America). It's not a problem of logistics. Btw, teams don't need 6 different compounds but it would be very appropriate if Michelin could pre-select 3 options that it thinks will work better, for a specific circuit and varied conditions, and let the teams make their choices as late as possible. Anyway, I'm just a dated guy. Motorsports is heading towards another direction and soon there will be spec tires on LMP1 too |

so what? There are pitstops on car racing but WEC requires very few sets, considering how long the race is. I'm not asking this for everybody but for at least the LMP1-Hs.
I'm sure things won't be like this for the big race because things like this could make a farce of LM. Teams are now limited to use no more than 12 sets at LM(such limit doesn't matter, anyway, as they never used even close to that due to the typical triple or quadruple stinting) but I'm sure Michelin will provide far more sets as options for different circunstances |

To be fair to JoestForEver the length of race is very important to how many tyres you need. It is also reasonable to have assumed it should apply to all classes. If you are concerned about one then why not the others..

They are all different classes, with different tyre rules, so I don't see much trouble in giving this "privilege" to the manufacturers, afterall, that's where the overall win is defined. But that just my two cents...
Btw, Audi starts testing tomorrow, at Aragon, aren't they? |

Did Audi test last week with Porsche in Motorland? Some people saw Audi Sport trucks in Spanish highways on May 15th.

12 sets at LM (race) is fine atm, but cost-cutting it any lower than that could be dangerous as they'd potentially be forced to take huge risks. And everyone complaints about tire saving in F1, and for reason, we don't want any of that crap here surely.
Also surely in their 30 hour tests the manufacturers are attempting to stimulate the same with tire sets. Last edited by Deleted; 21 May 2016 at 15:02. |

To be honest I have never seen Audi tweeting as much about their tests as Porsche does.

Anyone know what brand of turbocharger Audi is using? They've usually run Garrett/Honeywell on their LMP1 cars, but Mahle also makes a line of turbos.
I'm asking because the new Audi turbo has stuff that's hydraulically operated that used to be fully electronic. |
