I see Teflonso's dedicated his podium to Flav.
I think the jokes on you Brits who actually believe that Alonso is serious - sometimes the irony/humour does not come across in translation.

Perhaps you could explain what you felt Alonso meant.

Well, last time I checked, Ireland was still a different country to Britain !

If its irony/humor from Fernando, it appears to have been missed by a lot of people and left a trail of destruction in its wake.

He wasn't being ironic, although he inadvertently provided some humour.

For what it's worth, I don't think it's a particularly bad thing for him to say. He was drawing attention to the good things Briatore must have done. The timing (which was of course the required time to make such a statement in order to talk up said good things) was always going to make these comments go down badly or miff people a bit.

Alonso?
That article just says that he had preferential treatment, in Piquet Snr's view. What Alonso wanted he got, not that Alonso knew, or suggested, the crash.

Seems Piquet Snr's intimating a bit more than that.

"The team was not even managed by Briatore; it was managed by Alonso himself."

OK, I didn't read that into it. That seems to be how Jr wasn't given a fair crack at it, not Singapore last year. Besides, Snr has intimated many things in the past

I must admit to being surprised how little of this is sticking to Alonso. He's been involved in the two big cheating news stories and is doing relatively alright. So much so that the team that absolute abhors cheating is going to employ him next year!

Maranello abhors cheats, but an application of force to find the value of Young's Modulus for various rules, now thats just practical engineering.

And Ferrari wasn't managed by Todt, it was managed by Schumacher. I don't see a difference really, MS and FA have been the most in demand drivers of the last 15 years or so, the fact that the team(s) will bend over backwards to accomodate them is testimony of that.

Maybe, just maybe, it's because he's not as involved as the media, (and certain members of this forum ) would have us believe?

Or perhaps he's just savvy. Who knows? And frankly who cares?

Is Piquet Sr. going to pipe down. He really is the most crashing bore. Like de Montezemolo on mushrooms.

The identity of Witness X has now been revealed. I think most people had a pretty fair idea anyway and at least we now know it definitely wasn't Alonso.

Well that's kind of boring. It makes sense but lacks the drama of it being the unibrowed one. Hopefully, since Steve Machette knows him fairly well we'll get some decent comments from Stece this weekend on the tow truck reality channel.

One question though - who instigated the discussion to get the Fuji result?

There's no issue with a driver having a team built around him as Schumacher had at Ferrari and Alonso has at Renault. In fact having the driver 'manage' the team, in this context, is probably is the optimal way to operate when you have a superstar of that level. The problem here is that we're being asked to believe the 'manager' was completely unaware of a sophisticated conspiracy designed to benefit him at the risk and expense of others in the team.

As Adam has said earlier, I too am dumbfounded that having been at the very epicentre of possibly the two biggest scandals this sport has ever seen, Fernando Alonso is without a blemish on his character. Teflonso is a very apt acronym for him... and maybe one of the few things that might just stick !

But there's no proof, and surely NPJ would have said by now that FA was actually in on the plan, but he hasn't.

Personally I just cannot accept that Teflonso didn't know about this. He may not have suggested the idea, or even decided when the crash was to take place, but his strategy was strange before the race (and he didn't question it?), the accident clearly benefitted him directly (and he didn't question it?), ande the team must have just shrugged when it happened (and he didn't question it?).
Not asking an obvious question when you can clearly work out the answer means you must know what happened.
(I bet he always wins at paintball, all the evidence will just drop off without a trace!)

I've no doubt that Alonso would've twigged what was happening but if he wasn't directly involved in the conspiracy, he's no case to answer.

A true sportsman would not have wanted to claim the win in these circumstances. (Just ask Sir Stirling Moss )

But what are we accusing him of?

A lack of sportsmanship may not be a desirable attribute but it's hardly a crime. For me he'd only be guilty if he was in on the plot.
