Superb job from relatively new teams, in Rowe and Akka ASP too.

Really happy for Alex Sims, a really nice guy the few times I've spoken to him, and Maxime Martin who has been the best driver in the GT3 era.

Congratulations for finishing the race! Edit - Renge sounds very pleased! Vanthoor does sound disappointed, and I can see why. Even with the accident 2nd was achievable for them. |

As far as I know, the team name = ASP = Auto Sport Promotion, with Sofrev before and AKKA now being the sponsor/partner.

No it's not. The cars were prepared at Affalterbach without any involvement from the teams (it is my understanding that the penalized cars are owned by AMG) and went straight to the track. AMG should go on record and just tell the world what happened, it's not as black and white as it would first appear.

It's pretty clear that AMG did this with intent to cheat. Basically what they did was what Lamborghini did in IMSA at Daytona this year, which was cheating the technical regs and violating any homolgation and "anti-sandbagging" clauses.
I think that the message should be pretty clear, be it with the SRO, FIA or ACO: you get caught cheating with deliberate intent to do so, you do the crime, you do the time. And if you cheat or sandbag, don't be surprised if the sanctioning body retaliates. That could've saved the whole BOP debacle that the ACO had on their hands at Le Mans this year in GTE. |

I love the Spa 24 hours and it was another great race
Those cars spinning in the deluge at the Bus Stop reminds me of the first lap of the 2010 Belgian GP at the same corner |

Then we are saying the same thing, yes. At least two AMG teams had no idea the mapping was in SRO's eyes illegal (I didn't ask the other), and my friend who works electronics for another GT3 manufacturer also told me that as far as he knows editing the engine mapping is not available to customers to the teams that run his cars. Definitely not the teams fault.

If you don't mind me asking, if the teams aren't able to change the engine mapping, then why was it only declared illegal during superpole? Was it changed by an AMG Technician/Engineer, rather than by the teams? I take it all of the AMG teams are assigned an Engineer by Mercedes? This is all very interesting, so thank you for posting!

I don't know if that's also the case for AMG, but I would assume it is as it's a homologation part so not something a manufacturer would want customers to tinker with anyway.

Because it was only discovered in the post-superpole technical checks (and that's why only the MBs in the superpole shootout got stop/go penalties).

Congratulations Scudd. Getting through any 24 hour race is an achievement to be celebrated
Onto a more sour topic, just heard on MWM (from Goodwin) that it definitely wasn't just the ignition timing of the Superpole AMG-GTs that caught the stewards' attention. His interpretation of Mercedes' statement (I've not seen it yet) is that Mercedes basically admit to all the changes, but they try to argue that they didn't know it was strictly illegal. |

They were fast in the race regardless. Came within a shot for the win.
