Way off base. The reason why automakers don't put money behind racing in America is because they can plaster a commercial during an SEC game on Saturdays and get massive ROI, whereas there's nobody watching any racing other than NASCAR. There's too many massively popular stick and ball sports in America for racing to succeed by following the European "Throw money at it and see if it sticks" method. We do damn good racing in America for much cheaper than anywhere else, and while I dearly wish we had some categories(F3, F3000, silhouette or tubeframe touring cars, pro stage rally) it's obvious that they would just never work in America.

Not sure how much this really moves things on from what we already knew but Dome appear to be edging towards a return next year and have a few interested parties in running the S102. Decision will be taken soon.

Racing in America is one thing, but if cars like the CTS-V are meant to be M3, AMG etc. competitors in Europe/Asia, they need to be competing on the world stage.

Perhaps it's just that some US cars are unsuitable for European roads and running costs, the Japanease have integrated better because their models fit within European product lines, Korean cars are a coming force too. Of course Ford and GM have very successful Euro/Asia specific models, maybe touring car racing, rallying etc. will get a foothold in the US when these models are integrated into the US product line*, your seeing it already with the Fiesta and it's use in X-Games.

*European and Japanease models are also taking a foothold in South America and China, so maybe the Ford/GM model changeover in the US won't take long.

According to @dsceditor the news round-up seems to be.........

............Honda will announce a P1 program, the R8 LMS will be homologated in ALMS GTE, and two new manufactuers will be announcing WEC GTE programs.

The Audi R8 LMS and new manufactures in GTE could be combined!?

But who will be the last GTE program? - Nissan?

Seems to be three distinct programs, with the Audi possibly being an ALMS only homologation.

As for the two WEC GTE's, only news is it's not the LFA, could be the Viper (expected this to be ALMS focused?), Ford GT (already announced) anything else is a complete guess, Nissan would be a good shout seeing as they already have GT1 and GT3 versions of the GT-R.

Don't expect that to happen with the arrest of mr. Antonov. Their main sponsor.

Could it be the Lambda Ford GT? As mentioned in the other thread, they're going to present the GTE, apparently, at Essen, and plan to build 6.

As for the R8, Graham's line "plan is limited GTE homologation for ALMS only" sounds kinda fishy... GT3 in GT2's clothes maybe? And if this happens to be true I dear god hope it's not going to be another M3, loaded with waivers and massive restrictors. That would be a freaking disaster

Anyway I'm praying that one of those candidates is Viper indeed
