A bit late to post, but probably still worth doing so. Dan Neil from the LA Times was at LeMans.
His LeMans blog (includes Grand Marnier crepe recipe) http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sleepless/ report - "OK, so Audi is Jack Bauer, and he's trying to protect his country from the insurgents, who are, this year, the team from European powerhouse Peugeot." http://www.latimes.com/classified/au...autos-highway1 |

I just compared some onboard Audi R10 TDi laps at Le Mans 2006 and 2007 and I found 2 in which the 2006 R10 and the 2007 have the exact same lap all the way! Milimetrically... Except for the Tetre Rouge-Mulsanne Pt. 1 part, that is. What I did was I measured the exact time advantage that the 2007 circuit provides from the 2001-2006 circuit, as it was the same Audi R10 car and in unbelievably similar laps. The result? Just before the first Mulsanne Chicane, exactly 2 seconds.
This means the blindingly fast laps of 2007 (3:26 in qualifying and 3:27 in the race) weren't only due to the circuit change. Audi have gone harder this year than in 2006 as they had to beat Peugeot now. And this actually means that, even on the previous track configuration (on which the record lap is the 2002 Audi R8 with 3:29.905), the Audi R10 and the Peugeot 908 could lap around 3:28, maybe even 3:27 as in 2007 their ideal lap times were in the 3:25's. That's really incredibly fast, isn't it? |

This year's car sounds really loud on there! Has this been dubbed or have the dropped a "big bore" exhaust in it??? |

Just home after seven fabulous weeks - LM, Goodwood and French GP, sundry motor and aviation museums, a week in Paris and two in Scotland.
Thanks to all who responded with suggestions, everything at Le Mans worked out pretty well. Le Mans was a definite highlight, even if the amount of walking led to a blistered foot. Sunday evening felt like WW3 broken out, as my neighbor had fireworks best used to demolish large buildings, or finish a war ... Pity about the rain, my other neighbors had brought in a boot full of water after the hot race last year - sometimes you just can't win. Fortunately they had an annex, into which they kindly invited me - my tent was of the minimalist variety. next year? - a definite possibility! Last edited by GreenMachine; 7 Aug 2007 at 03:35. |

Now that's a long Le Mans trip!
I have been gearing myself up for next year for several weeks now after ridding myself of the post LM bleus and you have only just got back! Glad you had a good time. |
