Sr. Piquet is talking again. This is the first time I have seen this complete of a statement from him regarding the timeline of the events.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/79477 If what he says is true, it sounds like he tried to rectify or at least clarify the situation more than once, but certain parties didn't want to cooperate, so he resorted to legal/FIA action. Briatore ****ed off the wrong person. |

And if he wins and the FIA has to stump up the 1 million I wonder if we will have to pay that!

I'm sorry for Briatore, but he'll get nothing.

Briatores fight back may owe more to how it affects him outside of motorsport.
If the tag he carries disqualifies him from other enterprises then discrediting the FIA decision through a judicial judgement is a way to deal with suggestions he is not a 'fit and proper person' to own a ...... football team, for example... |

Of course he had to do this when the championship was decided. Couldn't have waited a couple of weeks either way.
Nasty man. |

Last month I had to modify a QPR magazine ad for a publication I work on. One mod was to put in a photo of Flav. So they don't seem concerned.

Thread from the dead
Flav is taking the FIA to court to seek compensation for his wrongful (in his opinion) ban.

I think a number of us on here pointed out that he may have a case under European law. I expect that now Mosely has gone that Todt will not want this dirty laundry being exposed in a public court and that some accommodation will be come to before the case goes to court.

But if all of this is just swept aside, what do you think will happen? Will Flav & Pat be allowed back into F1? Will Flav be allowed to managed drivers again? Surely we're better off without him around (but Pat Symonds was I think far more innocent)? As for Ron appearing at the last GP, I'm sure it was because the FIA had a new president, but surely he moved out of F1 voluntarily as a gesture to appease Max, he wasn't forced to? |

T'is interesting isn't it. With my geeky legal head on I'm glad Flav is bringing action. The FIA sanction IMO overstepped the mark.
I'm not sure about the claims of Human Rights infringements, unless something has changed (or its different in different countries?), you can only claim Human Rights infringements State or quasi state bodies. UK Caselaw has held that people like the Jockey Club aren't quasi state bodies even though arguably they hold that sort of status. I think the FIA ought to be a bit careful - if the Euro Courts feel that the FIA have behaved very badly the FIA might well find itself being subject to Human Rights legislation and that would have some really serious ramifications throughout motorsport and indeed other sports. |

I'd like to think Todt has the balls to go out and prove he's his own man by lifting the bans. Not because I like Flav and Pat, but to show he's not Mosley's puppet

You beet me to it there. My thoughts entirely. I think a deal of some sort as a gesture of goodwill from the new president will be done with Flav and Symonds.

Briatore says there were secret meetings held before the WMSC meeting.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80148 I am sure there were plenty of meetings between different individuals over this situation before it went to the WMSC. Did they have their mind made up beforehand? I don't know. Do I care, not really. I hope he does not succeed. I think the sport is better off without him. |

It makes me smile when someone as (alledgedly) double-dealing as Flav, part of the team that got a driver to deliberately crash to help their prospects, and who's been on the edge of all sorts of apparently dodginess over the years gets all high-and-mighty and offended at the possibility that their may have been a conspiracy.
Excuse me while I have a complete sense of sympathy failure. Ah well, at least he gets to work closely with lawyers, possibly the only profession where he may meet someone even more loathsome than he. |
