If you actually read any of the media/publicity they got from their historic win, BoP did not exist in many citations.

Does bop talk exist in any team's winning PR pieces? I wouldn't expect anything like "... we won against tough competition, but thanks to our sandbagging better than others, we hid our true pace until Le Mans..." that wouldn't make it past the editors desk!

It's a good thing that they are not doing the world championship for the short term

Yeah, I know, perhaps it just seems inflated in the world of us anoraks. Or it's a probability that Ford has told those writing the stories to shut up...

What do you guys think about Marino Franchitti getting the ax? Is it justified or harsh?

Maybe a tiny bit harsh, but going on pace alone for the last 3-4 races it's sadly justified. Looking at the WEC timing sheets, on fastest laps Marino has been just about the slowest driver in GTE-Pro at the last 2 events at least, and hasn't lit the world on fire before that either. In that car, Priaulx is quicker but not consistently, while Tincknell is in a completely different league, consistently (sometimes by a huge amount) the fastest driver in the #67.

Dropping Marino is a little harsh, but that's the reality of modern racing at the top level. If you haven't proven yourself in half a year, you're out. He hasn't been the fastest, and they had Tinknell available. It makes complete sense to swap them.
Marino would be better off in a P2 car IMO. |
