the last sentence in that announcement is both bemusing and desperate; he "hopes" TCRUK goes a long way. mid february is "relatively early"(?!) and he hopes it encourages more teams and drivers to sign up
thats not a confident thing to say about the series. |

People on here will forever frustrate me! We've had weeks of people moaning about the lack of entries, then as soon as we get an entry confirmed, it's just greeted by even more negativity. It IS at least an entry, and it should hopefully go some way to convincing other potential teams/drivers that TCR UK IS going to go ahead this year. Would it kill people to just take a positive outlook, rather than trying to twist what positive news we do get, into negativity again?

doesnt that fact that a driver has to try to convince others that the series is going to go ahead ring alarm bells to you?

I agree, the last line of the press release almost seemed to be begging, if people were going to sign up, im not sure Lewis Kent saying he signed up early (its not that early) to encourage more drivers and teams to sign up will work. Surely nobody is sitting there thinking "yeah Lewis Kent is doing it, lets join up" This tactic could have worked if they had managed to get one of the big name BTCC refugees (Goff, Jackson etc) to join in |

Well credit to Stewart he has got this together on a tiny budget and has 400% more drivers than the TCR UK lame duck. We could be on for a dozen entries in TCT if what I have heard/ know/ think I know is correct.

I have been quite critical of TCR UK but if they can pull their act together a bit over the next 6 or 7 weeks and do well to encourage some of the likes of Goff, Jackson or Epps to take part and actually gain some drivers who carry a lot of public interest then they might start gaining a bit more momentum in the UK |

Looks like it is finally getting going. With luck it’ll back into double figures by the end of the season

It would have been interesting to see a proper turn out in some form for the British TCR cars, but I guess it's too hard to justify funding a supposed 'feeder series' like this instead of something more visible (and affordable) like the Clio Cup.
If it was ever going to work in the UK, it should have been promoted as an equivalent to the BTCC with a TV deal, understandable organisation and some main-stream promotion. Then, maybe they could have coaxed in some of the BTCC out-casts. It came across a bit like a club championship, which again wasn't going to work when you could buy seat time with a TCR car in the much more established Britcar or 24H series at a considerably lower cost. I was wondering, though, what would have happened to the touring car scene if NGTC was adopted across Europe/WTCC instead. It's clearly more interesting than TCR to the British market given that both TCR UK and TCT are seemingly struggling this year, so possibly it could have worked elsewhere too. |

To be brutally honest, I think the right ruleset got adopted. NGTC builds cost far more and I personally think the TCR cars are better engineered than the flip floppy NGTC cars.

Other than FWD vs RWD, does NGTC actually give us greater diversity? NGTC is based around common components. Mechanically the only non-common component is the engine, and most teams chose to use the generic option for that. Strip off the bodywork and they are all the same underneath.

The only way for TCR to have success in UK is that BTCC adopt it. And it would be great, although NGTC has proven to be a successful formula anyway for the championship
