I don't remember is this MG the already bent one or the "good" one ?
cos if it was the bad one isn't really as big of a loss |

Sutton's car was involved as well, wonder if that will have any long term effects similar to Plato's?
Not looking good for MG... luckily the wet gave Cook (also ATS) a strong grid position so we'll see whether he can keep that in the races. So, is that 2 destroyed MGs with no replacement? Big problems if, as suggested, they don't have the budget for a replacement? |

Jeff Smith broken ribs, both shoulders dislocated and being kept in sedation. Not surprised really as it appears his car suffered two large hits in quick succession.

Wow, just watched the clip on YouTube, very reminiscent of the Oulton Park British GT crash in 2002. Lots of work for the teams and and a long summer break of recovery for all involved. Seemed like people were still carrying a lot of speed, I dunno in situations like this whether the marshalls have the ability to make the call and wave reds (facing the heat later if they judge it wrong, I guess) or if they have to wait for race control by which time it's too late?

From the BTCC site:
Aron Taylor-Smith (#40 MG Racing RCIB Insurance) suffered a fracture to his left leg and concussion. He was closely monitored in hospital and was released late last night. Luke Davenport (#300 Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Duo) is currently in intensive care in an induced coma, and is in a serious but stable condition, with multiple chest injuries, lung damage, broken right leg, broken pelvis, broken right arm and concussion. Jeff Smith (#55 Eurotech Racing) is currently in intensive care in an induced coma, and is in a serious but stable condition, with multiple chest injuries, extensive shoulder injuries, broken left arm and concussion. All of the above injuries, whilst very serious, are not immediately life threatening. We would like to thank the BTCC Medical Team, marshals, Croft Circuit staff, Air Ambulance crews and all staff at James Cook Hospital. Everyone within the BTCC sends their best wishes to all three drivers for a speedy and full recovery. |

Wonder if TOCA will look at improving the side impact protection of the cars... Or introducing a safety cell within the cars, like in V8 Supercars.

Hadn't realised the extent of the injuries. Eurotech are saying Smith has 7 broken ribs, some broken in 2 places, and dislocated both shoulders.

I just want to wish the people involved in the crash all of the best and hopefully they will be able to make the next meeting in the best possible way
Even if the session was a little affair with so little running, the mixed grid should be a good race |

I think this might be something of a wake up call for the series.
Nontheless, I wish all involved a speedy recovery, horrible to hear of these injuries. |

I'm not sure what much else can be done with car-on-car impacts at such high speeds, to be honest.

That's one of the worst smashes i've ever seen I think. All three of the seriously injured drivers' cars were an absolute mess, scarily reminiscent of Allan Simonsen's car at Le Mans. Tough to legislate for both rain and oil on the circuit though.

Race 1 done. Sutton and Turkington absolutely brilliant at the front. From 5th down was just carnage. A lot of cars needing work now.

Typical Turkington drive - pressured Sutton the entire race, yet both cars came back without a single scratch on them. Shame the same can't be said for others in the field.

There's not a lot you can about that much oil going onto a damp track. |
