This is the first time I've ever posted on the Bike forum, but I have been following events and hoped he would pull through.
I've read on BBC about this terrible news. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. Rest in peace Daijiro. |

As I just have said in another thread in 10-Tenhs, my biggest bitterness in motorsports have been the fatalities of Gilles, Senna, Moore and now Daijiro.
RIP +- |

"Unfortunately, motorsport is also this" - Mario Andretti on the tragic death of teammate Ronnie Peterson. Rest in peace, Daijiro-san.

wow, i heard Kato's name in passing in the F1 forum - and so i came here. this is my first post in the Bike Forum and what a post to make. this is just such a tragedy. my heart goes out to his widow, his kids (one of whom i heard was born just a few days before the accident) and the rest of his family. from what i've heard, he was set for big things. i guess we'll never know how far he may have got, this is also one of the tragedies. once again, my condolences go out to his friends, family and supporters.
RIP Kato. |

See you up there Kato-san, you are surely in the first lane in heaven. He was probably one of the chosen to take on Rossi.
RIP Daijiro |

Daijiro was brave in the past two weeks, and he never gave up his fight for life. He lived life in the fast lane, was a brilliant and brave rider but also a family man, with a wife and young daughter.
This is just tragic news and news I was hoping I would not have to awake to. Daijiro will be missed by all and my deepest heartfelt sympathies go out to his family, friends, team members and anyone who knew the brilliant young man. But Daijiro wil be remembered for his feats on the track by all. His records in 250cc and his wonderful performances in the top class. Daijiro died while doing what he loved most, riding a bike at top speed in the best racing class in the world This is just a tragedy that affects the whole motorsport arena. RIP Daijiro. He had now joined Baz in motorsport heaven. |

It is terrible anytime that a racer dies as a result of an accident. Saying that, it is also necessary for someone to die sometime, if just to remind us of the risks these men take every time they hit the track. These men risk death at every corner, and while we can do everything we can to minimalize that risk, it still exists.
After the death of Jim Clark at Hockenheim, Chris Amon remarked, "If it could happen to him, what chance did the rest of us have?" He was foreshadowing the grim future of Grand Prix racing in the years to come. In the ten years after Clark's death, the list of those killed on the track read like a excerpt from who's who in racing: Jochen Rindt, Bruce McLaren, So Siffert, Pedro Rodriguez, Francois Cevert, Peter Revson, Mark Donahue, Tom Pryce, Ronnie Peterson, just to name the notable ones. It had reached the point that safety could not keep up with the speeds cars were now reaching. It was not until the '80s did safety catch up. I hope that, in light of the tragic events at Suzuka, that what happened there was a fluke, and that motorcycle racing has not reached that breaking point where the speeds cannot ensure safety. If it has reached that point, may God be with them all. |

Poor man, very sad news indeed, but I had the feeling from the outset that he wasn't going to make it. That does little to ease the sadness though, my condolences

I'd followed him for a few year and I always thought he'll be no.1 in a few year, but this will never happen, but he's still my no.1, R.I.P. Dai-san.
