So...there was all sorts of talk in FIA/ACO future about a GTE Plus category, and this is sort of a Minus version in a maner of speaking? Like GT3 Plus?

I would venture it's actually GT3 Minus, it's more power potentially but less cost. Higher top speeds likely but at the cost of cornering. Interesting bits in the S365 article about GMG and Sofronas taking delivery of 2 Porsches at Spa with an additional 2 to be delivered, with options on a further 2 cars if needed. He claims it's all street parts so no rebuild intervals set as of yet and ready to race out of the box. And I guess they're ready to run a GT2 series in North America next season, the R8 and others better hurry. Although I think that means they need to kick the R8 and AMG out of GT4 if they make a GT2 car. But I don't know what options that leaves them so maybe not.

I'm a recent interview on DSC, Glickenhaus said they are building a GT2 version of their upcoming 004 since the GT3 will take a while with the production requirements. Should be ready for 2020.

It appears to be for today drivers who won't run GT3 because of costs and don't like the cars, speed, glory, whatever of GT4. It feels to be like GT4 Plus, similar idea with "fancier" cars.

that's GT4 that year by year are getting faster and in next 2-3 seasons could be as fast as late '00 - early '10 gt3s. GT2 is basically the blancpain sports club with a proper racing class. Problem is that gt2 class tech regs. basically don't exist. |

They’ve been pretty clear that GT2 is there to replace GT3 if it goes bust, and GT4 would always remain the slower category. SRO have more ownership over GT2 and GT4 than they do GT3, so they don’t mind too much if GT3 implodes on them |

Honestly I would at least watch the race, maybe not if it's all Porsche but it's an interesting idea. The first race at Spa sounds interesting and the fact they are letting the 935 "remakes" race as well is intriguing. How many will race and then immediately get garaged for the provenance and investment remains to be seem though, and sadly I think it will be a high number. |

That was my initial thought Akrapovic, personally I hope so, I like the R8 in GT4 spec.

It seems to have a bigger splitter at the front than I would expect from a GT4 but then GT2s aren't supposed to have much aero either so?

I've been told there's a media schedule floating about somewhere which has it as a GT2.

"GT2 (which bridges the gap between GT3 and GT4) will debut..." Intuative! |

Add in true amateur drivers and I'm guessing much slower than a developed GT3 car. I'm curious the difference between the GT2 and GT4 cars myself. Mostly street based both but it sounded like GT4 allows a bit more race prep so it will be interesting to see. |
