Nah, gonna call bullsh on that. V8s are not and have never been about being the fastest - if they were worried about that, the cars would have bigger wings, no rev limit, more rubber etc etc. On top of that, having this event work and get traction helps the V8s - the deal at Bathurst is that the venue fees reduce for each event of more events are run, so the more events run, the less each one of them pays for the venue and at Bathurst, that's a big reduction as the original cost is large. Know that some of them there were disappointed when the 24 hour race failed as it meant the venue hire fee for the 1000K went up.

Lets not start saying irrational things
8000 people on race day and 9000 viewers, it has as much presence as my local football league.. except my local football league will at least get the scores on TV that night Will also point out that in two weekend time at Clipsal that race winning car will running around on the same track on the same weekend as V8 Supercars. If V8 Supercars were even remotely worried, why would they allow that to happen |

Then the Procar TV people were caught in pit lane filming the crowds during a V8 session - big difference of course that during the V8 session, the grandstands were full, during the Procar track time, very much less so. That was what the stoush was about - Procar reneging on it's agreement with 10 and attempting to pass off a V8 crowd as it's own. Nothing at all to do with whether or not Procar categories should be included in the event. |

I would put alleged around areas of your above post as the Procar side of that story is extremely different to the one you described which forgive me reads a little like the pr line from Cole Hithcock when the story broke - along with the demise of the Procar / Channel 10 partnership that you touched on above. And as you confirmed - Procar were entitled to film at the event but V8SA did try to prevent this as part of their disagreement |

Not going to go with "alleged" as the whole mess happened in the pit lane during a V8 session and approx 7 or 8 metres from me - saw it all personally. Also think this all happened long before Mr.Hitchcock was in the seat but might be mistaken there - fog of time and all that. I was told by a senior V8 person at the time (and a 10 person later that day) that Procar were permitted to film but under strict conditions - their sessions only, their cars only, that sort of thing. Filming the crowd for a V8 session was something they were most definitely not entitled to do. |

The Bathurst 24 Hour announcement at Clipsal in 2002 was another flashpoint between the two organisations which still saw Procar participate in the event until their demise - pointing to SA Government involvement in hold contracts Cole has been around since the early 2000's Im pretty sure. |

Unless those overseas competotors are scared Why would we not be interested in another Class, specially if it is one that can provide 8-10 cars ( we could cap it if we wanted, maybe even as a result of qualyfying). |

I can't see any reason why a V8Supercar team would want to try and run a 12 hour endurance race 2 weeks out from Clipsal.....

Would add an extra element if Ford and Holden put some money in and showed up with a few cars.

Let's take this suggestion and make it even more ludicrous! Let's see if V8SC would like to have a couple of 458's, some SLS AMG Mercs, maybe a couple of GTE Porsches, Aston Martins and Corvettes in an invitational class with some of their pro drivers on board to whoop their arses, unless of course they are scared. |

Why would V8SC be scared, any manufacturereis more than welcome to enter, as long as they have a 5l v8 4 door car and they submit to the parity rules. V8 Supercars is not class racing. the Bathurst 12 hour is. Its just another Class, but it will be a competitive one for outright honours. there is no need for personal insults or comments |

The way that interest in the B12hr seems to be growing internationally, there won't be any need (or room) for an invitational class.

Bluesport, as pointed out but someone else. there were 6 or 7 international GT cars. That's along way from international acceptance, (how many were there last year) much of the international support actually came in the invitational classes
yes there were international drivers, and some were in the Australian teams. |
