Perez v Sirotkin. This was one of the most blatant "professional fouls" I have ever seen in F1. Vettel on Hamilton and a couple of Maldonado incidents are the only others that spring to mind.
Senna at Suzuka turned out to be much the same but eventually we found out it was pre-meditated. Prost on Senna the year before looked like "If we both crash, I'm champion, and anyway the speed is low and no-one will get hurt". The Schumacher Chop was never quite in the same league as it was intended to intimidate rather than to deliberately hit another car. Personally I think the stewards played very safe with the drive-through. I suspect they didn't want to come down hard and then find afterwards that there was some mitigating factor. On the other hand, it should still be open to the FIA to impose a more appropriate penalty; one race ban, three race ban, one season ban? It really is totally unacceptable to lose your temper (we could hear that on team radio well before the incident) and drive into another car. It needs to be stamped on. Remind me someone: what was the penalty for Crashgate? |

Vettel looked a broken man after the race. Even allowing for the exhaustion and dehydration, I think he's given up.

A driver who seems not to make mistakes and a team seemingly capable of answering any technical challenge puts rivals under the most extreme pressure. And Ferrari/Vettel have - with the caveat that there are 6 races to go - not proven able to cope. |

Seems no one could touch Lewis, although Max drove a brilliant race and almost took the lead in traffic. I really don't know what people expected from Grosjean, it may say in the rules he's supposed to give way, but if he's in a battle, there should be a bit of leeway. After all the onus in on the leading car to get past the slower car
Checo's racecraft seemed a bit suspect today, closing the door too early as he put it was a bad piece of driving and rightly he got a penalty for that. Sirotkin though what a defence though. And Fred, shows what a great driver he still is |

Perez had a Haas rejoining the circuit on his inside a second or two before the collision with his teammate. I wonder whether this was a factor in diverting his attention and resulting in him allegedly being unaware of his teammate on the outside? Of course the problem with this argument is that these two have run each other off the track and into walls on numerous occasions before.
His chop on Sirotkin was absolutely appalling - and I can think of no excuses whatsoever. Why no black flag? |

Mod action: Original post in the rate the race thread https://tentenths.com/forum/showthre...45#post3851045
It started a debate similar to that happening in the race discussion thread. Posts moved. Perez was simply unacceptable - the nudge to his team-mate "may" have been simply careless, although I'm not convinced - the attack on Sirotkin was almost homicidal. I'd have ripped Perez's licence up on the spot - a drive-through was nowhere near enough penalty. Last edited by Adam43; 18 Sep 2018 at 17:48. Reason: Moved part relevant to other thread. |

Surely that's not enough, he should have been executed on the spot for his heinous crimes. After being publicly displayed on a cross so his fellow drivers can throw eggs and rotten fruit at him.

Nothing to add to the comments on Ferrari/Vettel failures.
Perez deserves to have his licence ripped up - he's either incompetent or incapable of handling his emotions, neither of which is acceptable in a F1 car. Anyone else notice that Danny Ric kept popping in a 1.43 every so often, then slowing again? Was that a tyre issue or was he just getting bored and needed to have a play every now and then? |

no doubt it deserved a harsher penalty, even a black flag after his second piece of contact.
that said and not trying to defend Perez here but i didnt really see either incident as particularity violent so im inclined to give Perez some benefit of the doubt in that he was just trying to be a 'hard' racer. more a case of someone trying to be a tough guy and not really having the skill to pull it off effectively...which i suppose isnt great but its not evil either. imo, just a natural by product of competition really. |

I know, banish him to NASCAR where that sort of behaviour is rewarded. |

Pretty sure they stuck that information behind a paywall. Third party timing systems have all been given cease & desist notices.

I agree with you that Perez's driving into the side of Sirotkin is just ridiculous, I think he should spend a good few races on the sidelines thinking about it. If I was FI, I would get rid of him for pushing Ocon into the wall (absolutely deliberate, no question imo), again! Third time! |

I must have been the only person watching who thought Ocon was an idiot for trying a banzaii kamikazzee pass, around a corner where he was always going to get squeezed,in the other drivers blind spot, when its all going crazy on the first lap.
A bit of patience and everyone would be talking about what a great bag of points he got.... |

Now, from what I recall, it looked pretty petulant and a definite swipe at the other car. As with a punch or similar in other sports (not boxing ) this is just not acceptable in the sport. The debate can be whether he did it on purpose. I’d have to watch again. However it did look bad and I didn’t really buy Perez’s explanation, but I note Charlie Whiting says he doesn’t think he did it on purpose. |
