[QUOTEI wonder how we will fare this coming Saturday on the Island Circuit with the 750mc, as I understand quite a few Oulton "Regulars" are off to Donny for the BTCC?
Mark
I have had the volenteering sheet sent through to me. We have 65 bodies if they all turn up. No apologies as yet ! Looking good ! Ian |

Well that's a more positive sign!
Hopefully I will be able to perform just the one duty on Saturday. I will be on either Island, Hilltop, Avenue, Deer leap, or Knicker In I think.......or if we DO end up being short....all of them!! Mark |

You know very well were I am this weekend, I'm at Donington on the Rescue Unit. Please except my apologies for not being at Oulton, I hope you have a good day and the meeting passes with no serious incidents. Glad too hear that you have a reasonable number this weekend, at least Mr Mitchell will be able to do what all Observers do best....sleep |

The last time I was on the bank 15th August BARC meeting with the Legends. My team were on Druids and were very busy. I even had to do some running and put a fire out too ! Seriously, I split my time between the Unit and the Bank I enjoy them both. So you are off to Donny at the w/e. The quantity has dropped now but the quality has just shot up ! Ian |

Congratulations, glad to hear you have not lost your touch Ian
I know you divide your time between Rescue and going on the Bank Ian, I was joking. I too enjoy doing I.O and Rescue but as I'm sure you will appreciate as a trainee rescue member I need to get as much experience as possible in order to get through my assessment. As regards the quality going up I agree totally Ian, with you on the Bank the quality was always going to go up. |

Weren't you the one at Anglesey who was spread out like a starfish on the grass at every oportunity? I personally find it difficult to sleep, especially at the last couple of meetings. You just get comfy and warm, and you feel your eye-lids getting heavy and then all of a sudden BANG-CRASH-WALLOP.....some daft sod in a legend rolls it over a barrier or a caterham tries to squeeze into the observers box with you. |

From the 65 Volenteers, we had 6 apologies, 16 did'nt bother and 8 extras. Most Oulton regulars, did this meeting and then off to Donny for the Sunday. Of course this does not answer the question. What happened to the 16 others? Ian |

Ian, I suggest that you read ALL of the items in this thread.
See 25 Jul 2003 17:58 particularly and as I am quoting from a fellow user 'Scallwag' I would have thought it was obvious that I am merely following a strand that has arisen within it! I hope that you can take time to read it... |

Ah, so there was the original topic from a fellow marshal who was wondering why the numbers (of marshals) were dropping. Then there were a lot of replies, and I noticed people voluntering to become a marshal (which is a good thing), then this "book" thing became the issue. Then the author of this book was accused of collecting the benefits of this book for himself instead of "using it for the proper cause". Instead of accusing people for purchasing their next bungalow on Ibiza I think it´s time to get back to the original topic. No I, ve not put me thoughts on this subject online (yet), but I´m very curious about your thoughts on this subject.

And of course I forgot something. In Holland we have the same problem as you seem to be having in the UK. We tried averything we could, and that is by now the same things that you did. No succes at this moment.

I agree that these comments should be removed from the thread but all I was doing was replying to an earlier strand of a thread I havd just been made aware of.
As for flats in Ibiza, there isn't going to be any money made from this book (honest) to fund a week in Colwyn Bay let alone a Spanish island home. So go on Mr or Mrs Administrator 'blitz 'em'! How does showing pictures of crashes increase Marshal numbers, by the way? |

Children, Children......!
I guess Derek replied to the earlier thread in good faith! Derek - A Tip! When replying to relevent threads, particularly older ones, it's a good idea to "Quote" the post you are replying to, then it all makes sense!! Now then.....Derek you sit over there and be quiet....M.G. ....you sit over on the other side and Ian.......stand outside the door please until you can all behave!! Teacher!! |

Seem to remember the picture was of my first incident as a marshal, and the conversation around it was about how important it is (in terms of retention as well as safety) for new marshals to be well looked after and properly instructed (as I was, due credit to the organisation at Oulton), and how 'getting through' your first incident is a key moment.
I've been unavoidably absent since then, but I promise I'll be back on the bank next season! With my mod head on (I hope you don't mind me butting in Steve ), can we bury this nonsense now? Derek answered a straight question (which he quoted), and referenced the relevant thread. It could have been left at that and we could have simply returned to talking about the topic in hand. Can't we just do that now? I don't see the need to pull the posts. |

Scally
I quite agree Scally On another thread it was mentioned that someone was going to contact one of the motoring 'Press/celeb' to promote our cause. I have never heard Martin Brundle say anything posative about marshals in the way that Muddly Talker would. His (M.B.) only mention of marshals was to state that he had broken some poor Japanese marshals leg when he lost control of his car when the yellow flags were out. What is a yellow flag show? If I or Marshal Girl get chance at the BTCC meeting we plan to have a word with Ben Edwards (the bloke who presents with VBH )to see what can be done. Ian |
