Wrist Bands
Silly Question in some peoples opinion but my first time going to F1 GP as a marshal. I have received wrist bands and paperwork etc do the guest wrist bands have to be exchanged for tickets on arrival or do the wrist bands get the guest into the campsite and the circuit?

The guest wristbands are all you need for campsite and circuit

Have you seen the forecast, I hope someone has thought about providing extra(sic) water to marshals posts over the weekend.
Otherwise some might be flagging in more ways than one. |

That someone should be all of us! It would be nice to say otherwise, but the first responsibliity for providing water is yourself. Rely on others and there's a chance you'll be getting nothing, just because things happen.

It also mentions in the marshals instructions that all hot food outlets will have running potable water and that they have been instructed to supply marshals foc with water, so don't throw your last bottle away. If you're not close to a hot food outlet, then you'll have to rely on yourself in the first instance. |

Most posts are near to a toilet block of some sort, so there is drinking water available for refilling bottles, with plenty of down time between races for people to nip for a refill.
If you are going to be on one of the remote posts where you cant get to a tap, at least you already know, and can make plans to take enough water. |

For anyone heading down and needing water, remember the Well known UK supermarket in Towcester.

I was also going to say be responsible for your own welfare,
All the instructions I've seen have always said take enough food a water with you. Not forgetting the right clothing, and sun cream. |

And help your fellow marshals, keep an eye on who's not drinking and encourage them to.

Basic needs for volunteers should be covered.
water (+ice) and shade are basic needs - especially when mother nature throws her summer sunny hat in - and should be covered by whoever is responsible for the event.
Any multi-million business (commercial or not) not providing this to their volunteers deserves a big slab in the face! No care for volunteers = no volunteers at the scene in my book. It's about time federations, series, organizers and clubs alike have to realize volunteers are human beings and they should be threatened as such, not as dogs... |

Very large amounts of water in the signing on marquee. Some people taking far more than they needed for just the weekend and there was still more than a pallet load left this afternoon.

I was at Silverstone, but have chosen already not to do the F1 next year - will probably do a longer Le Mans trip and marshal elsewhere on F1 weekend. This is not due to being treated like a dog, as the provision is better now than it used to be, but not ideal. There was more than enough water available, which was appreciated. Portaloos (cue sniggering from North America) on post would be the biggest improvement - it avoids us having to fight (sometimes almost literally) through the queues at distant public toilets. Their abscence means you don't drink as much as you need during the day as you've got to plan in the toilet run into gaps in the timetable. Marshalling is a hobby to be enjoyed, and my schedule adjustment for next year gives this. |

Great 3 days!
Campsite not as bad as I'd imagined. Facilities were very good and clean Not a great post but the company was brilliant Racing was ok - GP was best in along while Don't like the voucher scheme and would prefer lunch to be delivered to post like at most other GP's. Will volunteer again next year |

Or get the Chief Marshal to come round delivering ice creams as he did at Snett on Saturday

Also as said, plenty of water available, and we had a portaloo by us, and the BRDC posh toilets we could use within a minutes walk of our post. But what amazes me is how stupid some grown people act when they are away from home. |
