Is the competitors camp site next to the marshals site as per previous years? If so I will try looking a few of you up on Friday night after the days activities.

The competitor support parking - transporters, motorhomes etc. is in Car Park E which is opposite the Lavant Straight pedestrian tunnel. I think that this is the same place as previous years?

Yes, vehicle entry restricted to those with correct pass, the cricket match, are they still tetchy about dress?

Probably - attendees are asked to arrive in a suitable period car and I'm sure I saw a reference to a prize for the best car/outfit. This gives a pointer.

Last year there was a rumour that entry to the cricket match may be restricted this year. Anyone know the details if true? Last edited by LYNX; 28 Aug 2010 at 14:59. Reason: spelling |

A question that has puzzled me over the years. The various guest drivers/professionals who are drafted in to share cars in the two part events like the saloons, they presumably are paid a fee. Does anyone know how much they get?

No payment as far as I am aware. They may get accommodation taken care of but doubt there is anything beyond that.

Why are people asking if people are paid or not paid to race cars or attend meetings?
Goodwood,Oulton Park,Does it matter and its only the business of the payer and payee.Someone must think its worth the payment. Is it just being nosey or the whinging British? |

Seems a perfectly reasonable question to ask! Why should we not be allowed to know?

I would imagine its not dissimilar to models doing the front cover of Vogue - more a case of being asked than being paid.

I guess its the same when we have guess driver celebs talking at club dinner dances, I have arranged several including inviting John Cleland and Patrick Watts and they wouldnt accept a penny just room and board and a bit of dinner.

One of people asked about was SSM.
Of course he's paid ,that's his job.He does things for money. At Oultone he pulls people through the gate and helps R and M sell P99 ,and push Legends Series. The high flyer's still get paid, most of others because they still want to be involved. What was Patrick Watts thing, lecture in Art of Public Speaking. That should be worth paying for. |

You are right about dinner speakers. I'm secretary of the biggest club in the north of England and it does get more and difficult to get guest speakers. The good guys like Stuart Turner, John Cleland, Barrie Williams will come for cost/accomodation due to their love of the sport, but most of the young professionals want paid silly money. A few years back when the BTCC was at Croft a local club asked one of the then leading BTCC drivers to do a club night while he was there. He wanted £750 for the 2 hours. It did not go down too well as many of the club members would be marshalling for him and his pals for three days for nothing!

Top bloke John Cleland and good entertaining speaker I shared the table with him, Patrick was OK as it happens and Barry Whizzo was a blast but that was with CTCRC and I never had anything to do with that one. I recon Roger would be a good guest speaker, fancy it Rog?
