Missed the piece on Scotty Sunday night but have just watched it online. I hope he never loses that frankness - it has a very fresh real feel to it.
Thought the editing was sharp. Told the story well and the category looked awesome as backdrop to the series

Agree Icarus. He is the next murph or gis for sure. Am I right in assuming that murph is the 2013 sprint champion? If so you'd think that it would be all over the v8st website and speedcafe.
Great seeing murph, svg and scott sharing the podium after race 3 at puke. It seemed very appropriate in my view.

Who owns the beautiful I45, Mark? We've largely been lead to believe that it was you all along, so this is a surprise.

Time to dust this thread off (could you please open the 'Te News' thread mods? Pretty pleez - we've been behaving lately ).

Highlands' website and others have posted updates to their 2014 calender, this being the main thing of interest:

24-26 January 2014:

- V8 Supertourers
- Toyota Racing Series

TRS racing with V8ST's? Sounds mint to me. A sign of something perhaps?

Also, the event clashes with one of the NZFMR weekends. Now to decide which one I attend...

Alan Dick mentioned the Jan round in his last article in Classic Driver.
Wondered when it would be mentioned elsewhere.
It was obvious a long time ago they would never be racing there in Nov so why have they left the Nov SI round on there so long?

Is that the Hyundai V8ST that Mark Petch doesn't own, or the Ford Focus for South Africa?

Definitely the Focus, check the badge, and the bumpers and lights are all Focus shaped too.

Hi GB,

I can confirm that the Pace built car in question is not a V8Supertourer, it is actually the prototype mule for the South African Series, and is skinned with the latest Ford focus panels.

The car is fitted with a Craig Hasted built 5 litre Ford Coyote engine driving through an Albin transaxel. The wheelbase is some 125-mm shorter than a V8 Supercar/V8Supertourer.

The car is due to be shipped to South Africa in the next couple of weeks, once its had its shakedown run at Ipswich next Tuesday.

Interesting - it is amazing how little difference in wheelbase there is between a compact car and a large saloon car. I realize that the wheelbases of each are not necessarily representative of the actual dimensions of each car, but I would say they're not a country mile off either.

Either way, it's a pretty mean looking beast!

I hope we will actually see the ST's at Highlands in January, the circuit looks great.

Where did you "see" it was up for tender?

I know someone, who's mate met a guy, who's sister knows a bloke who knows where the car is. I can only confirm that it is no longer where it was supposed to be which was in Petch's workshop.

V8 SuperTourer prototype open to tender
Tuesday 23rd July, 2013 12:53pm

The first prototype V8 SuperTourer has gone up for tender.

Put up for sale by a consortium of 11 owners, the VE Commodore-spec prototype was the first built by Gold Coast-based company Pace Innovations under the command of Paul Ceprnich.

V8 SuperTourers underwent a massive ownership shake up earlier this year with Ray Noonan taking a stake in the business and who is now involved in the day-to-day running of the category.

The chassis plate number V8ST-VE-00P comes with a current Motorsport New Zealand homologation log book.

It has been driven by a number of high profile drivers in promo activities over the last 18 months, including New Zealand’s favourite touring car son Greg Murphy and Aussie Jack Perkins.

The vehicle was used chiefly for research and development and promotional purposes co-inciding with the inaugural V8 SuperTourer season commencing at the beginning of last year.

Never put into competition, the car includes Holden Commodore VE panels of carbon fibre composite construction which are V8 Supercar-spec save for the front bar/splitter and rear wing which conform to current V8ST shape a form.

The prototype’s floor pan and firewall are genuine VE Commodore road car components which separates it from production V8 SuperTourers.

Mechanically it is identical to a V8ST, running the same small block 7-litre powerplant hand-built at General Motors’ Performance Build Centre in Michigan, gearbox and 9-inch differential.

Similarities also rest with the same KW suspension dampers, Brembo brakes and 18-inch forged wheels.

The vehicle has a dry weight of 1230kg.

Tenders are to be received by 5pm on Friday August 23.

But it is not actually eligable to run in the supertourer class is it?

So will just be a club car or show piece ?

There are a number of possibilities that the V8ST Prototype can be used for, one is obviously as a GT1 Sports sedan, or in XtremeGT, long distance races , etc.

It's an extremely fast car, as it weighs 45 kg's less than the production V8ST, and the engine is capable of producing around 700 BHP, so potentially much faster than an Australian touring car for a start.

The car could also be re-chassis'd with a V8ST conforming current chassis, so that way it would be eligible to run as a V8ST complying car.

So, as said, lots of possibilities, open to a potential purchaser.
