Oh, you're in a world of hurt, boy. |

That has to be the the defining quote of this thread.
If you believe that you'll believe anything. Anyway, it won't happen again so that's ok with me. I hope Max fulfills his potential and doesn't get spat out again like so many others. |

It's more likely he is 'spat out' as that is F1. Or indeed most competitive sports. More people fail, whatever the age, than succeed.

All these rookies I reserve judgment on. And drivers that blitz the junior seater ranks do and can fizzle out in F1. I know some of our Dutch friends adore these Verstappens. I'm gonna wait a little longer though before I issue my tribute.

"The Rookie" second fastest day 3 in Catalunya!
No stuff ups and 129 laps - two GP distances. Apparently he is ready! |

Well said.
Obviously testing is testing, and second fastest doesn't mean he will necessarily be getting podiums this year. But what it does mean is he has the pace in an F1 seat to justify being in it this year, plus he has the fitness to do a full GP. What will be interesting is some of the more difficult GPs, but I actually think Max will impress this year in every respect. Sure he may be "too young", but for a handful of people in certain sports there is no such thing. |

I'll believe it when I see it at a sanctioned F1 race.

It's not just the number of laps he's completed, or the fastest time he's done. His times have generally been consistent too, that's another good sign.

seems the title of this topic should be changed to "Carlos Sainz jr should not be in F1 this season"
since he managed to crash the Toro Rosso on both his testdays in Barcelona. |

Tbh Alonso/Button is the most experienced pairing of the lot. Give it a couple of years and they will both not be driving. They're a bit old for a long-term project, albeit certainly not too old to, say, win a WDC

I can't help but feel this is one of those threads that is always going to bite you in the arse when the title of it is phrased so dramatically.
It's a bit like Knowlesy's Red Bull 2014 battle predictions, which he has gracefully put into his signature. |

Anyone who thought that he was out of his depth didn't realise that for young Max, Formula 1 is swimming in the shallow end of the pool.

Does seem to have gone a bit quiet on this thread. I wonder why?
