OK -just bringing this to the top again.
As I care, so if you don't care don't worry. It's like counting the clock down when you know who's going to win. Any news ? Last edited by Techo; 26 Aug 2004 at 11:57. |

The article was interesting in that it seems the deal between Mr Gibson with Mr Watson and Mr Forbes was verbal rather than written...
... and considering a verbal contract is worth only the paper it is written on (read:none) it all seems a little odd. Not sure I would want to take someone to court, looking for a $20m claim, on the strength of a verbal contract............ |

Ah this old chestnut...
Very interesting reading Here Mr Forbes made some serious money when he sold his L1 franchise licence slots for a reputed $3m for the pair, having bought them for $400k in early 2001............ |

Ok... the salient points to me are around the cost of the key people in the operation.
Ford was supposed to put $1.5m a year on the table in 2001, and $3m a year in 2002 & 2003. According to some of the testimony in the above,.... the following costs emerge... Mr Watson - Sponsor Procurement - $150k/yr (2001) $300k/yr (2002 & 2003) Mr Heaphy - Motorsport Management - $120k/year (all years) Mr Gibson - Team Principal - $250k/yr +7% of gross...(all years) So of the money from Ford... in 2001, $520k+7% of gross of the $1.5m (more than 1/3) went to these 3 people.. which improved in percentage terms in 2002 and beyond at $670k+7% of gross of the $3m (only 22%... ) Ford cheque went here. Is this a top heavy organisation?? How much money touched the race cars that didnt have to come from Mr Forbes? Very very strange |

Not bored at all, actually was discussing something regarding this situation recently, which is more up to date than the detail discussed here.
Franchise sale profits remain very very interesting! |
