Think I may have got this ebay thing wrong. Listed a set of wheels and tyres for a rare late 80s roller skate and when the buyer came to collect them I finished up buying the car off him instead.......

but very much

Don't tell Mr Conway...... But a 205 Rallye. (Well, when money has changed hands!) It is the proper stripped out LHD homologation special with 1294cc TU engine on twin 40s. I imported a new one from Belgium in late 80s and converted it for GpN rallying. Fabulous little car, all GTI 1.6 suspension and brakes, but only tip the scales at 780kg!

Needs tidying of course but still have 205 parts boxed up including the front seats out of my original one!

It will replace the '88 924S which I need to move on......

Love it but sad to see, what looks like from the colour scheme, an RS Escort. I suppose they weren't worth much money in 1975?

Health n safety I don't think even I in my "yoof" would have been that silly !
I remember the single car timed laps around the various circuits back in those days and remember one guy at Arlington stuffed it big time and had the car taken out up the road a bit to try and claim on his insurance
I also remember a few rental cars used for this !!!!!

RS2000 and '73 on an M plate. So a 2 year old car at the time.

I bought an M reg Mexico in '75, same colour. Private purchase, reasonable mileage but a couple dings in wings from bumps in car parks (so I was told, seemed about right). Iirc I paid just over a grand for it. So an RS2000 would have been about 300 or 400 more. In fact a mate of mine bought one I found for him in Gloucestershire for about £1400 in '76 if memory serves. N plate I think. So not exactly scrap money.

Completely bonkers stuff but the driving standards mostly looked pretty good considering.

OK not motorsport unless you include being strapped into a tiny little open cocpit airplane with a flat four engine buzzing away above your head and flying over Hazyview and part of the Kruger National Park sport, it certainly was as exciting as any motorsport I have ever participated in!!!

Cracking little car, Mike......co-drove one of those on the Swedish Rally back in '89 IIRC......tho we had to be a little restrained in our attack as my mate had actually agreed a sale on the car before we set off for Sweden.....still it ensured we got a finish

Co-incidentally I just sold some XR2 pepperpot alloys on Ebay and the young lads who came to collect them came in their Fiesta....but I was able to restrain the urge to buy it

What you really need is a 924S, Richard- full 160bhp version. Well, when it was new possibly......

I did sell five 5.5 x 10 magnesium Minilites. Fortunately they have gone to Oz, so not temptation there.

What was the snow like that year? Must be an amazing experience to do that rally. I serviced on it a couple of year's and our man won it in '91, so that was nice.

Brilliant bit of film that from Ipswich I had a great laugh. It reminded me when I used to do Hotrods at a little track in Herts, Bovingdon, they did a similiar thing but not as a race as such, Anyhow my mate (RiP Les Button) had an almost brand new Trans Am he had imported from the states and challenged the track owner who had a bullet style Mustang. Les was two years back to back banger champion and was a serious talent if he had ever decided to take to the track seriously sadly he did'nt so they decided to do the race like the indoor persuit cycle races starting at opposite sides of the track. Anyhow up for a laugh Les invited me to sit in the passengers seat and off we went. After abiut 10 laps Les was right up behind the Mustang when the Mustang driven by the track owner pulled over. He then declared himself the winner as Les had ballast in the car namely me!!

Just got round to watching the vid- full marks to the Mustang driver!

On an anorak note, the Celica is being driven by 'John Brundle' from Kings Lynn. That is Martin's Dad, the family ran a Toyota dealership at the time. Wonder if the car was back in their showroom next day.....

Did the Swedish twice - first time in an RX7 - but we only did the first day because we went off into a snow bank and got stuck on a log under the snow - took ages to jack the car up, push it off the jack, jack it up again, push it off...etc....so we went OTL at the end of the day - but we got to go spectating on the ice lake stages next day (we'd had a days practice playing on a similar stage in Mazda road cars) and altogether it was a fun experience.

When we did it in the Pug, the snow was patchier, and in some places we were having to look for the snow and ice to preserve the studded tyres, but again the whole rally was a great experience. It was also quite humbling driving along on the road sections when we were recce-ing, thinking we were being rally drivers, to find the Swedish yummy mummys flying past in the Volvo estates with the kids in the back, artfully tailsliding round the corners and disappearing into the distance

Thanks for the offer of the 924S, BTW, but I think after the 944 Turbo it might be a little.....lacking, shall we say - and I'm supposed to be selling cars, not getting more!

Just back from the Nurburgring and not a great deal to report I am afraid.Cars and drivers behaved ,Terrance came by to say hello inbetween Nordschliefe duties, Its incredable looking out from the paddock on Friday at the number of people camping over by the old track just spectating cars going around the circuit. They were not!! there Saturday as the day started with snow, fog, rain ,sleet, boy was that cold even had the heater on in the cab that night.
Spent a fair bit of time with Ole Vejlund who is now 70!!!and still pedaling FF2000 very quick. He was on pole Saturday morning when the weather was bad. Some great stories of him racing against James Hunt, Ronnie Peterson, Niki Lauda and many more. Then later in the evening at dinner we got talking to the most amazing man "Rainer Kuschall" who has been a Quadriplegic since he was 16.A 21 time olympic wheel chair champion we had a good banter on our marathon times, he was racing a Crossle I went to see him Saturday too try and understand how he could drive the car but sadley the drive shaft had just broken in qualifying and he was on his way out of the track.
Caught up with10/10ther Robert R and his gorgeous Brabham 1 litre F3 hope you had a good race Robert.
Mallory this Wednesday with the Monaco F3 cars then Silverstone Friday sorting out the new Sports 2000 Yoko radials.Hmmmmmmm how much camber

2nd Gen Camaro all checked out, polished and ready to go for me and Cliff to do our best in the FIA class at the Historic V8's at Snetterton this weekend. Car will sadly be let down by running the old Dunlop tyres but hey ho we have got to use up our stocks at least its closer to Group 1 this way!
