It’s common sense. Why they needed to let TV dictate things is not what it should be about

Hallelujah, never thought I'd see the day. Crazy that it has taken so long to implement common sense. |

Wasn't that the Fox money though - and Fox aren't concerned about time certainty according to the linked article. Have a feeling it might have come in before that when they were bending over for Network 7 for a much lower dollar figure

I honestly don't think that TC would have allowed it to happen on his watch - he was always focussed on providing good entertainment to fans both at the track and at home on TV. |

Its annoying to see race distance shortened half way thru while watching on the box. Far far worse when you've been trackside for days, often in the heat or rain, and at considerable cost. |

You forgot to mention standing around for ages waiting for giant holes in the schedule caused by such things as grid interviews to be completed. They may look half ok on the tellie but are complete rubbish to anyone at the circuit.

The only time certainty (which had actually been in place for quite a while) was the longer races of Bathurst and Sandown and the length of time before they went time time certain and was WELL past the scheduled news time and was so big a time gap that it never came into play. The time certainty on both those races was much more about potentially running out of daylight and was driven by that concern, not by TV needs. The time certainty on the sprint races, plus the time certain finish being so close to the time a race would finish with no issues, only came in much later, I think it was when the 2nd deal was done with 7 but I'm not 100% on that - may have been when the most recent deal was done with 10. Either way, in the "post TC" era. |

And the last couple years of their contract they would cut out large chunks of the middle of the race to fit in with the allocated broadcast time. |

Well where is it shown live. Certainly there’s plenty of chances there. Not sure having highlights, especially the way Ch 7 did it

10 was "live" or close to it for quite a few years but the races generally started earlier then to allow for any lengthening of race time due to rain, SC etc. 10 would use the time after the race if it went to schedule to show the podium, do some interviews etc. |

Remember when a few laps here and there would vanish over the course of the telecast?

Yep - but that would happen during adds in any case if it was live. I seem to remember that one of the networks then started the races on delay, showed all laps around the adds but as a result things like live timing didn't line up with the laps actually on screen.

Years ago (as in roughly 20) we went from the track at Winton after the race finished on Sunday afternoon to my brother in law's place 5 minutes away in time to see the last 10 laps or so on tv.

Heard the COG data was sent to D2H Engineering (UK mob). Any truth to that? Seems a little unbelievable - surely someone local is more than capable, keep jobs in this country yada yada

Is this maybe a point of probity or impartiality/transparency?

What worries me more is how are officials going to check cars CoG at the track in a timely fashion?

They're not that closely scrutineered through the season though, are they?

Entrants sign a statement to the effect that cars are prepared and presented in a legal manner. Spot checks of "something" are done on all cars throughout the weekend. Targeted scrutiny happens on a chassis once every 5 events that they are presented. |

I thought as much, hence why some cars are excluded from multiple events.
