I have looked through the list of volenteers for this w/e BTCC meeting. It seems this was 'patched' from last years listing with not all the marshals on that list attending.
I hope we still have a good turn out. What has the attendance been for marshals around the country for BTCC meetings ? |

You want a THIN orange line?
The meeting I am attending this weekend has only around 22 marshals of all (Trackside) disciplines!! |

Sorry Observer,
How can you run an event with 22 marshals ? Who dictates the event will run ? I hope you find more marshals It is always the case, larger meetings draw the marshals to travel, with the clubbie meets surviving with just the local marshals. |

Do you mean the local Marshals for each track? Or the raceday Marshals? |

Not up to me I'm afraid.....I've already voiced my concern! It looks like they may have to rely on the drivers to offer a little assistance if required. I think a couple more marshals have volunteered since......thanks Jim W Mark Last edited by Mark Mitchell; 19 Sep 2003 at 09:14. |

BTCC has had a good turn out of marshals at all except the Rockingham meeting. There are a group of regulars that follow the championship around. (I know some of you may think that is sad but that's our choice)Each circuit generally seems to have it's own trusty regulars too and some of us, I note go where our clubs hold meetings. As it is the championship final at Oulton Park this weekend I should think there will be a good number of us. I've also been given a box of freebie calendars (2003)for all the marshal's (well I have 90) as a thank you from the producer.
See you there people. |

Thanks manic,
That answers my question. How and where you marshal is up to you, just keep on doing what you are doing. Ian |

Well Woody,
I think it was a nice gesture to remember the marshals. The pictures are good and some people may indeed have youngsters that would collect them. I know plenty of people who were pleased to recieve them. If I knew who you were then I'd make sure not to bother with you again. Andrew has put a lot of time and effort into providing the merchandise and has donated many items for marshals before. that sort of rude comment is the sort of thing to make him think it's not worth bothering if people are going to throw his kind gestures in his face. |

Thanks for your efforts Manic.
You can't please everyone. Marshal Girl collected 20+ T Shirts, caps etc from teams for the marshals raffle. Even Yvan Mullers (signed) hat when he won the championship. I hope no one turns their nose up at these. It is not easy to get people to part with free gifts for marshals or anyone else. Well done to you all Ian |

Or would it be the sort of raffle that means your car did wheelies on the way home Mr. Perkins. |

Oh I see. But why not give out the goodies throughout the year? I would estimate that 90% of us won't be able to make to to the end-of-year bash. This would also result in the desired effect - people feeling happy and appreciated on the day!

Paul,
It is a traditional thing. everyone at the bash is guaranteed a prize. Plus it takes all year to save up all the prizes. At the w/e ther was a marshals raffle with cash prizes and gifts donated by teams on the day. Ian |

However, I never win anything remotely connected with motorsport. Over the years I have won a Woodpecker baseball cap, a barometer, a bottle opener, and some cheap plonk. This year I'm not going because I have a race day on the Sunday - and I'm getting too old to stay up late when getting up early!! |

However, I'll stop there, as this could end up occupying its own thread! Don't get me wrong Ian, I'm not whingeing, it's just that such things are not very visible to the rest of us. I'm merely making suggestions. Last edited by PaulPerkins; 22 Sep 2003 at 13:02. |

Sorry Nadine I'm not trying to poo-poo your efforts and intentions......I applaud your commitment! I personally don't think there's that much wrong with the way marshalling is run by clubs etc. I think the whole of society has changed with the times and there are many more way to spend your free time now than there was maybe 10 years ago. But taking my point under discussion - the raffle/perceived lack-of-raffle debate - why not give out raffle tickets at sign-on just like every other meeting? That way we all know that one is taking place and we might end up winning something. I'm sorry to bang on about this trivial example, but it's a useful tool to demonstrate the point: do things openly and visibly and we all feel a little less excluded/hard done to/forgotten about. (Delete as applicable. Others' words, not mine.) And best of all, it doesn't take a great deal of effort or expense! |
