Excellent footage, wonder if Peter knows its on y-tube? Interesting to watch the respect of the kerbing, unlike a lot of drivers these days!

There is new kerbing on the outside of Druids that might have some effect.

Yes,hopefully. The point being that drivers 'back then' would not use the kerbing as an advantage, they respected the circuit edge,IE,would not go over the outer white line.Even the touring car boys kept it to within the track limit.

David never told me he got paid for it !! - didn't pay his pit crew then !
So good to see that footage though, I never saaw the orginal as I was at college then. I remember the filming, we all had to stand around and cheer as they went off for the parade lap at the end (remember those), the special Wendy Wools countdown boards. Can't remember the character that Tony Davies was supposed to be - was he the "bad guy" ? I do remember though that it was filmed on a race day and during lunch they had to film the finish so everyone went round Druids, reorganised their positions on back straight then came round again (albeit a little slowly) for the filming on the top straight, but they never filmed the actual race in the afternoon and I remember David and Peter B (aka Donna) have a real battle with Peter just pipping David by half a car length on the finish.
Shame Clive B is no longer on here, he is standing by Davids car at the start, I'm sure he would like to see it.

I think you will find they did film the race in the afternoon as they needed some real life footage to cut n splice for the filming from the midweek and have the full grid of race cars from the main race I recall the midweek filming was AFTER the wendy wools race so they could mix the cars around for the fliming to follow what happened from the race

In the main race you will see the yellow Maguire stilletto with red roof of Tony Bridge giving Ginger a hard time
THAT was the race however there was a problem with the mid week filming as he could not come down form Burnley to film due to work commitments and he slightly scuppered the film footage and they needed to utilise another yellow Stilleto with red fablon on roof to fill in the scenes for the midweek filming
Note the Podium footage is mdweek film as main Grandstand is empty and lap of honour car drives UP pitlane not down it!

Yes you are right Drifty, we did have a filming session midweek, I was sure they didn't film the afternoon race because of the great finish we had that day, still it was a long time ago ! Yes noticed that the parade car was driving the wrong way up the pit lane
Good to know Clive has seen the footage

the race footage was used to pad out the race and the midweek filming was to create the story lone around teh race footage hence the tony Bridge car being top 4 runner actually getting in the way and not turning up on the following weds for filming
If you watch it again you can see the real race footage and teh mid week footage at different distances a part between cars and they are travelling at different speeds

I learnt some great tips from this footage
1 dont spin the wheels on the start !
2 if i see a gap go for it! i wondered why i never got to the frst corner before the row in front!
3 count down from the 1 minute board !!
yikes whats wrong with counting off the red light its far easier!

Wow, I didn't remember how close that was until I watched the video.Brilliant race. Who was in the Mini which caused the last lap drama. If you look closely you may see that the exhaust pipe broke on the nearside of my Escort. That car was a real handful with a short wheelbase and a heavy V6 engine in the front. We used it as a basis for the Thundersaloon Sierra which came out in 1986.

the cars sounded so much better then without all the silencing regs we have now, and look at the crowds for a club race - excellent

Yeah looks like the exshaust was dragging on the ground from very early on . Was a cracking race you did well to keep chatfield behind you , I can see the car was a bit of a handfull looked a real job to get it into Paddock.
I was only 9 at the time but i remember my Dad , Dale and yourself watching the video in the Kentagon after the race with a fair bit of banter going on.
Not sure who was in the Mini .
