Fuel based on food products is stupid... I think we all agree on that.

I agree with you 1000% More political BS then anything. Chit without the fricken drought here in the SE, one could make a small fortune growing soy beans and corn for etoh production with the Government subsidies. Close to $5 / bushel at 2800-3000 bushels per acer profit, $12-$15,000 per acre at 500 acres planted. Might have to clear cut 500 acres and turn into farm land. But I wont and Huge you are correct. Back to the topic - some interesting quotes from Lou Gigliotti over at "Corvette Forum" -
"I was in Charlotte for the last 2 days at Riley Technologies and the progress on the details (of the GT2 Corvette) is exactly what we were expecting. The attention to detail and the engineering excellence of the car will be every bit as good as the current GT1 cars....." "I wish that we had at least one short sprint race prior to Sebring but we don't, so Sebring 12 hour race will be an even larger test of the GT2 Corvette." "At this point GM is helping (by providing) tech support rather than with any actual $$$. The tech support is already above any level that I had imagined. We get the use of their facilities like the wind tunnel, the 7 post shaker and their "Super Dyno". These things will help the program to raise so far above any simple World Challenge effort that it will boggle the mind...." Lookin' good so far!! |

This is terrific news! It looks as if Riley Technologies is really taking this effort to heart and plan on doing a bang up job. Chevy looks like they are giving their full blessing as well. It really makes you wish Sebring were just a few weeks away!! The potential for exciting competition in GT2 for next year is really great. One hopes the Viper effort is also getting this kind of effort. The competition between Corvette, Viper, Porsche & Ferrari could be amazing and if the Spyker effort materializes and Panoz comes back... Wow! Might knock P2 off the front page. DK |

I wasn't sure if this was the right place to post this but it is sort of related. This article from the Pratt & Miller web-site is a nice summary of Corvette Racing during 2007 that was done by customers of Pratt & Miller and not by the Factory Corvette Racing Team:

Average soybean yield, Iowa = 44 bushels per acre. Price (today) $11.50. GROSS (not profit, but BEFORE all costs for land, equipment, fuel, fertilizer, etc.) = $506. You can't grow anything in a drought, either. And govt. crop insurance will barely cover variable costs. Average price for an acre of Iowa farmland? $3,200. Operating costs? Fuel intensive. The math isn't really very good at all in the long run. Right now that's a pretty good profit. Historically, beans have been at $4 - $6. Subsidies? Those are to the fuel producers. Farmers get those when they DON'T plant, not when they DO (and obviously, now they are producing). That said, fuel from corn and soybeans is just about the dumbest idea anyone's come up with in a long time. Last edited by TWK; 12 Dec 2007 at 21:07. |

Sorry to go from the ALMS-cheer back to the subject.
Shouldn't a 2010 LMP project for Chevy be with an engine in the front? The front look of the cars need to be brand like if i'm correct and a Corvette with the engine in the back wouldn't that be too strange? So I hope we'll finally have a frontengined P back in 2010. |

It won't be the first mid-engine full prototype racer by Corvette. That one didn't require a change to the road car and this one won't either. Corvette might yet go to a mid-engine street car, but the Le Mans LMP is an independent decision.
(You can see the previous Corvette prototype in Bowling Green.) |
