Watched all three days on the box from the comfort of my lounge, and enjoyed most of it. The race commentary team was excellent as usual, especially as at times they couldn't even see what was going on on-track due to the rain/spray.
However, the best day for me was the Friday which seemed to be far more focused on the track action, whilst the weekend had far too much of the non racing stuff - frocks and hairdos are not really my bag. As to Chris Ward, he did seem to appear to be quite contrite after he stepped out of the car and was standing in the pits. His driving did seem to be uncharacteristic of him. |

I was a bit confused by that one, I thought Lord March wouldn't allow fakes at the Revival, well apart from quite a lot of the cars racing this weekend.

Yes, when they were building the new lightweight e types I am sure he categorically said that no continuation cars would race at Goodwood......

A friend of mine was excluded for this. Not just for the race but the whole meeting. He had extenuating circumstances but that was it - go home, young man. Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk |

The Fordwater incident reminded me of the coming together between Tiff and David Clarke driving the Camaro. It's a shame that amongst those of us interested the driving in that one race has possibly coloured our view of the event. |

I recall the winning car of the 2016 Goodwood Whitsun Trophy, a Lotus 19, beeing offered a few weeks after the event on Racecarsdirect as a replica, newly built. They actually made the point in the advert that it was so quick because it was a new car built with the latest expertise BUT within the rules.
https://racecarsdirect.com/Advert/De...ttp-recreation At the time, I was very much surprised that a replica like that was allowed in. perhaps i was naive...... RuE |

Nostalgia about a race meeting whose USP is nostalgia? That is a bit meta for me.
New for 2018 'The Revival Revival- experience the thrills and spills of 90s retro ' . Cue appearance of ersatz Spice Girls and Peugeot 405s .. |

Nope, Walmsley advertise the fact and there is a discussion in the 500 F3 club as to what level of Norton engine development is allowed into the cars and what not. You can go for ultra short stroke and get more power, for instance RuE |

Car 57 in Future Classics 80s - the race red-flagged because of the Morgan blow-up and fire, and run again at the end of the day. (The 75 in my profile pic )

On the subject of replicas, they have been permitted at the Revival for some time. I'm fairly sure that both the F1 Dinos in the Richmond Trophy are continuation/replica cars as is one of the DBR4s and the Lancia D50. Attitudes to this have changed: back in the day several drivers including Neil Corner and de Cadenet boycotted a historic meeting due to the arrival of Anthony Bamford's replica F1 Dinos. Now they are all 'happily' share the same grid. |

I was inferring that one might put the real one in ones private museum and build a replica to race . . . more common than one might imagine given that its probably cheaper to do than crashing/trashing and repairing something worth millions. genuine GT40 £2m? COntinuation £2000k? 4 pop rivets for chassis plate 50p? same for cobras, e types, listers elans, TVR's etc etc.

I think that was Max Mosley's intention when he opened the door to continuation cars.

I think describing the Lancia D 50s as replicas is going a bit far. The engines and gearboxes are originals, and parts of the axles (i think including the diff) also, lots of numbers on many parts but yes, frames and bodywork are new A friend of mine owned one of them for a while, hence my knowledge so they are certainly not made from scratch entirely RuE |

I thought Stippler's reaction to Newall's accident was a bit "cavalier," I don't know about you, but, even as a hired gun, bending a real '64 GTO is a little distressing. The impression I got was, 'Guess we'll have to dust off the old SWB,' as for the '64, 'littl' bit of Bondo, it'll buff out, and she'll be as good as new!' It's like spilling coffee on the Mona Lisa and dismissing it as 'just another painting.' Thankfully there were no slashed wrists or people trying to jump off tall buildings. I think defining what is real, authentic, original, restored, replica, continuation, and tribute are standards that very fluid and situational in our sport; it's when the word counterfeit is inserted into the conversation, and intent, that things get a little squishy.
