It looks that the circuit is going to be quite a bit faster than last year, also it looks like the circuit doesnt suit everyones driving like Bianchi and Sims for example.
Chilton actually had some good sectors but look to have problems with the car. Last edited by F3 UK; 19 Nov 2009 at 11:09. |

You also have to remember that it's today's and tomorrow's times that count, and tomorrow will presumably be quicker than today, depending upon weather/track conditions, with more rubber down, etc. So all could change. Also, we don't know how people used their tyre allocation, etc. let's wait for tomorrow. Toms is naturally a favourite. Interesting to see that quickest Mercedes is 5th at the moment (Bird)

That second session was actually first qualifying, so if the weather should intervene, that's your grid. It's the coldest out there it has been in 30 years, so you never know.
Qualify One: Code:
Pos Driver Team Car Time Gap 1. Marcus Ericsson TOM's D/T 2:11.811 2. Daniel Ricciardo Carlin D/V 2:11.848 +0.037 3. Edoardo Mortara Signature D/V 2:11.903 +0.092 4. Brendon Hartley Carlin D/V 2:12.055 +0.244 5. Sam Bird ART D/M 2:12.239 +0.428 6. Laurens Vanthoor Signature D/V 2:12.532 +0.721 7. Stefano Coletti Prema D/M 2:12.605 +0.794 8. Mika Maki Hitech D/M 2:12.636 +0.825 9. Jean-Karl Vernay Signature D/V 2:12.852 +1.041 10. Valtteri Bottas ART D/M 2:12.910 +1.099 11. Carlos Huertas Manor D/M 2:12.913 +1.102 12. Roberto Merhi Manor D/M 2:12.940 +1.129 13. Max Chilton Carlin D/V 2:12.994 +1.183 14. Alexander Sims Double R D/M 2:13.078 +1.267 15. Jules Bianchi ART D/M 2:13.084 +1.273 16. Early to judge but I thought that drivers like Bianchi, Sims, Mehri or even Van der Zande would be much faster...
Let's see how it goes tomorrow... |

I presume so, but then, Chilton also has three years' F3 experience, Mortara 2 years in Euroseries (same as Bird) plus one of GP2, Coletti 2 years F3 Euro plus GP2, Vernay 3 yrs Euroseries, Van der Zande 3 years F3, plus A1GP, plus GP2.

This is very true but its to do with experience at Macau not F3 experience mainly.
If u do it on just single seater experience then Chilton would be the least experienced which is what everyone forgets as he went straigt into F3 when everyone else has more years under there belt overall in juior classes. Its also down to if the driver gets to the grip with a circuit which Ricciardo had done very well but was close to crashing a few times. |

The difference between Ericsson and Iguchi is a bit surprising, isn't it? Or the lack of Toyota performance (except for Ericsson) in general, really. |

Vanthoor finished 6th overall last year in his very first attempt in his first year of single-seaters, for him to be 6th quickest in qualifying 1 is not a surprise. He is extremely good!

Free Practice 2 is in progress now on Live Timing with Mortara currently leading the way from Ricciardo and Ericsson, but there are still 9 minutes to go, which could be crucial. Bianchi is up to 6th and Iguchi to 10th.
Ericsson was in the pits for a while, but has now gone out for what I suspect will be a fast run. UPDATE: Mortara did a 2:10.593 in only 7 laps and then parked up. Hartley jumped Ericsson for 3rd, but then Bottas came from nowhere to snatch 3rd from him on the last lap. Qualifying later should be sensational. I'm sorry I have to go to bed now! Ricciardo is very impressive so far. First time at Macau, first time at a street track, and hes top 3 in all sessions so far and he has a chance to win it too! I hope he wins it!
