It would certainly fit the Qld Govt. criteria for international coverage and the sort of "glamour" image that V8SC doesn't supply.
The calendar window between Portugal and Durban is about right for packaging the gear and getting it to Oz, then on to South Africa.
The frieght package Europe-Australia-South Africa-Sout America would be something like the F1 Fly-away rounds and should attract some reasonable quotes.
Unfortunately I do see V8SC politics as being a problem unless there is a very strong voice in the organising camp. There doesn't seem to be much doubt that SEL wants to get total control of staging the event.
Here's hoping.

WMUCarGuy should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I heard on another forum that Pertti Kuismanen and another Fin will drive the one of the SRT/PK Corvettes in the FIA GT1 WC next year.

I guess Kuismanen lives in the poster's hometown and he's been talking around town about joining the team for 2010.

Would V8 management have to agree to the GT1's joining them on the bill?

Not if the event would be in jeopardy without the GT1s, as in, wouldn't get the QLD backing without the "international" series as a part of the event.

I am guessing that the QLD Government would require a minimum nuber of starters which is usually a problem for some series that travel outside Europe.

Given the numbers that CCWS got away with, I'm not too worried in that department. Besides, I was under the impression that SRO is covering travel for the teams to the fly-away events, so it shouldn't be as much of an issue. And in 2008, they still had about 80% of the normal, full-season entries take the flag in Argentina, thus, I'm not thinking too many dire thoughts just at the moment.

Indeed, and they also only accept full season entries, so the teams are not allowed to skip some races just cause they dont want to travel there.

"There are plenty of opportunities out there," he said. "Nothing is confirmed; everybody struggled to finalise their deals. For professional drivers, 2010 – if you want to get paid to drive – is going to be a tough year. But maybe in the Le Mans Series, or the new GT World Championship, there are some opportunities.

"I've also had some contact over the last two years with Superleague Formula and they have been putting a lot of pressure on me to move back to single-seaters, so that could be another option. I just need to be more confident that the championship will evolve. I'm pretty impressed with what they've done so far, to be honest."

The Portuguese driver is also considering offers from Japan after testing with the NISMO Super GT squad at Fuji earlier this month.

"They knew that I was interested in the GT1 championship, and they are preparing a new GT1 car," he said.

"They called me up to do this GT500 test in Japan, so I went over there and I tried the car, which was pretty impressive actually. It's a shame that in Europe we don't know that much about it – we know about it, we read about it in AUTOSPORT, but it's an amazing car and an amazing championship.

"The car is really impressive and it is a works team, so they are very professional, and I was really impressed with everything. It's more of a Prototype than a GT car – carbon chassis, lots of downforce, the way that the suspension and the geometry is done. So it was a big change from what I'm used to.

"I didn't have many laps because they were also testing three other Japanese drivers, but it was very good. So that is another possibility."

The PK/SRT combination talk seems to have legs and does seem to be in the works. However, does DKR have two C6Rs? I thought they had one C6R and one C5R. If not, are they looking to buy one from either Phoenix or LAA?

Chassis 08, the car that P&M ran as the black on last year is still available too (07 went to a coal miner in West Virginia with the Le Mans spec motor and every bit of dirt from Le Mans still on it).

Mücke and Turner drive for Young Driver AMR (Fischer)!

http://www.motorsport-total.com/mehr..._10011201.html

The second car will be driven by Nygaard and probably Enge.

Would seem unlikely with Mücke and Turner tied up in GT1, Charouz focusing on GP2 etc.

So the "Young Driver" team will have Mücke, Turner and Enge?

Good news that Mucke and Turner are sharing a DBR9, thats a strong pairing. And even better if Enge is in the second car.

Why don't Fischer partner Turner and Enge together? Would be an unbeatable pairing in my opinion.
