I wil admit that even in stock car racing that I watch you get guys turning out in "heritage" cars! They are new metal build and simply replica's! And then you get guys running original machines from the 60's and 70's, ahrdly fair! They run on new tyres and use new build engines that are far from stock block.

I have realised actually that I am preaching (stirring) to the converted here as most of you are either long term fans or are actively involved in series be it driving, working, spannering!

My comments are those of a hugely enthusiastic fan. Consider what it would be like if you went to watch something new then went again and again and though hugely tantalised felt a little let down. That's all. You can't win them all I guess.

And Al, I was very lucky a mate of mine worked on Beauliegh, I got in for free, was a bit disappointed, but the bike bit was superb! All I remember is the worlds tiniest caravan which was superb!

I thought there was a new HotRod Historic Formula now being run, in the 70's I have Hotrod raced two Anglias, a Mk 1 Escort, 1430 Mini, 1340 Mini, 1760 Mini-Ford and a terrible Hillman Imp Mid engined with 1760 Ford on top of Mini gearbox and no it didnt work!

Chris for a mere £14k you too can enjoy the humour of a two stroke! http://www.racecarsdirect.com/listin...IA_Papers.html
personally I cannot see the point and having been in the Walter Hayes race with the DKW I actually thought the speed differential was quite dangerous on a short circuit. I had to brake when I realized how quickly I was gaining on it. Not the DKW drivers fault as he was being overtaken by someone else at the time and did exactly the correct thing and held his line..
we digress

Here is a perfect example of a slow Saab out with us in a Post Historic Touring Car Race at Silverstone as described by Simon, I lap him on around 4:25 mins then again around 8 mins and on part two a couple more times as well, but the guy kept well out the way so no probs could have been a bit dodgy on one occassion as there was three of us battling for position when we came across him. Oh and Chunder you may find this boring to watch but from the hotseat it was brilliant I loved it and if this is boring you are one hard person to please! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kX9zqS-7AEw

Great footage Al, I just had to watch part 2 to make sure you got past the blue Escort......but don't tell Iain.

I was also waiting for the Saab to unlap himself.

And you should all come to Sussex - the sun is shining - honest!

The Saab chap was in fairness to him racing that at an historic Le Mans event and had to get some stamps on his licence to qualify.

to put some balance onto this discussion some of the biggest grin racing I have enjoyed is in a not so quick 1220 Turner - the brake pedal is rarely touched and any car you overtake is an achievement so its not all about quick cars merely making sure the relationship between the front and back of the grid is not too distant.

I would happily co drive (if invited) the Turner in a pre 63 round but probably not in a Gent Driver at Spa!!

Brian I hope it remains sunny as I am in sussex tomorrow!!

Sorry Simon - you're already too late as it is raining again. Sunday is supposed to be the best day for weather down this way.

I fully endorse your comment about 1220 cc of Climax engine - yours in a Turner, mine in the Elite - it is always great to do the giant killing thing. Most people just cannot believe how quick the little engine can go.

they've suprised me as well, I never thought a 1220 would produce more grunt than a 1500 Ford engine
