They might just as well have scheduled "competition caution" for the end instead on those phantom cautions, I mean we all already know one is coming to punch it up for the "closest finish evar" so we might just as well get over some on the anger by having precise timing of it beforehand...
Anyway, I remember last year when Shank took the Daytona pole, and people over at the GARRA forums cried how biased bop the P2s have received and how they'll now win every round easily... hehhe... will same happen now too |

The #20 Dyson R&S Ford won Daytona in '97, mostly because the #16--with Dyson's full season drivers for both of their cars, and hence an all pro line up--blew an engine half way though the race, but the #20 was still in contention mostly because everyone ahead of them kept having problems. But with the gentleman drivers in the car--including the team's owner in the form of the experienced but aged Rob Dyson--they couldn't win against the surviving Scandia Ferrari, even when one considers that Andy Evans--a gentleman driver who by then raced only part time--wasn't as fast as his team mates in the same car. So they stuffed all 4 of the #16's drivers into the #20 and won in spite of their car getting ready to grenade an engine. Though in all fairness, the Scandia Ferrari wasn't in a ton better shape with brake and gearbox problems. This of course was the pre-Audi era in sportscar racing, where races over 6 hours long were often won by cars that used a legitimate and deliberate slow and steady approach (running several seconds off qualifying pace--the Audi era is marked by having cars run consistently close to qualifying times even in 24 hour races without difficulty) or had to work around some problem with reliability/durability of their cars. We also have to remember that even the ALMS tried to do that for ESM vs Risi in the ALMS with team specific BOP to make up for the fact that ESM ran gentleman drivers/aged veterans in their cars as opposed to Risi. Didn't help ESM much as far as winning against Risi or anyone else. BOP can't make up for old age, inexperience or that a guy's in a car just as much or more for the money he brings vs his talent or performance behind the wheel. Not all gentleman drivers are bad, and quite a few are very good at racing. But only those who put in the time and effort to get very good like the late Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, and in more contemporary times, DHH, Scott Tucker (irrespective of his questionable business dealings), and our very own forum member Mike Hedlund. There's been couple of revisions to the pre-Roar bop tables already and one of them is setting the SMP at 890kg a la 50kg lighter than the Oak/"Ligier" coupé (and the theoretical HPD)...

In 2014 certainly. That was THE worst full course yellow thrown out in the history of north american sportscar racing. Second worst being the last one in the following race which was the sebring debacle.
In 2015 the 54 Oreca had a fire on track during the last hour so no just complaints there. I just hope this year we have as few yellows as possible for the reasons mentioned in this discussion thread. However if the yellows do occur I hope it is in the first 3 hours and get them out of the way. |

IMSA has made no changes to their FCY procedures so what do you expect?
At least the cautions will give the speedway plenty of opportunity to showcase their new stadium. |

In reference to this comment I do expect that after the race is 2-3 hours old early Sat evening. FCY's should provide a window to leave the speedway briefly to get some errands done.

They probably had scheduled GWC FCY bunching upper for the finish last year too but the flaming LMPC took care of that formality the 'clean way'
Btw there's 20 something cars for CTSCC pretest http://sportscar365.com/imsa/ctscc/2...24-entry-list/ That series is nearing shambles state too. Even if the race doubles the amount of that test, you know 40-50 cars or whatever, it's still just around 50-60% of what they had couple of years ago at the same race. |

Missed the last bit where it says 5 drivers. As Dagys mentioned on Twitter. By racing at Daytona, they have become the first team in Europe to get the 991 GT3 R. |
