kmchow should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
But looking at Holzer's '04 lineup of drivers, didn't they all struggle? Perhaps Opel thought that the other teams could do a better job running the drivers and prepping the cars?

Opel enters only 4 cars instead of 7 so an expanded team is enough. Beside that Opel wants to run the car by themself (or at least be more involved), so they formed a team of engineers and mechanics from the people of OPC and Phoenix (and maybe some people from Holzer).

And Opel doesn't want to bother racing the Astra's since they're so heavily outclassed?

Team Mücke will only have one car for Stefan Mücke, they are a private team, which means they get the car and parts from mercedes but have to pay everything else with sponsor money

Hey, this is great news! So MB is finally taking my advice!! They're leasing their cars to Privateers to build up the grid. It's too bad not more teams (V8 Star??) could step up to the plate??

I wonder how much the lease rate for a '04 MB C Class is??? Any downpayment?

John Winter should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Mercedes has released a press report today saying 7 Mercedes C-classes will race in 2005 in the DTM.

Bernd Schneider, Gary Paffett, Jean Alesi and Mika Häkkinen will drive a 2005 C-class for HWA Racing.
Jamie Green will drive a 2005 C-class for Persson Motorsport and Bruno Sprengler will drive a 2004 C-class for Persson Motorsport.
Stefan Mücke will drive a 2004 C-class for Mücke Motorsport.

This brings the total of cars for the 2005 season to 19. Let's hope MG will enter!

Rumour had it that Opel will pull the Vectra entry as it is such a dog. the VXR astra was being touted as a significant replacement in both this and BTCC cirlces but it has proven to be a 'bit of a *****' in setting up - more to follow soon i think....

Well, "+ its a Chevy", you haven't really been following the development of Opel's commitment to the DTM now have you?

Opel is definitely outgunned with only 4 entries? They'll be outnumbered 2 to 1.

If the '04 and older cars basically have no resale value, why don't they just lease them for dirt cheap to some V8Star teams? Surely, with little or no startup costs, surely some of those cars could make the grid??

thats what they are trying to do, for example they changed the rules to make one year old cars more competitive, but those private teams hardly find any sponsors at the moment

when irmscher entered a car some years ago they nearly went bankrupt because the cost were higher than expected

You can't compare a DTM car with a BTCC/WTCC car.

Now that the drivers have been announced, has any sponsors been announced as well? I assume Audi will keep all their sponsors? MB will keep their Vodafone and AMG ones. Will Team Pearson once again run their famous Originale Teile/exposed engine design scheme? I think that's the coolest scheme.
