No comment. So as its a Limited company he can take the money and run, set up another company/lease another circuit tomorrow, make a total mess of that.... Something tells me there is something drastically wrong with the limited liability laws in the UK. |

"DVLL's chief executive Simon Gillet has a salary of £253,041"
Ya I saw that earlier today... looks like something from last year's banking debacle doesn't it. |

That's a lot, yes, but that doesn't explain the other millions they're short. I kind of feel sorry for DVLL though. I believe them when they said they had all the money when the deal was done, only for all the investors to pull out when the recession became apparent. I think that, rather than blaming Gillett for this, he and his company were just victims of the recession. I really hope something will happen with Donington now. it's the best circuit in the UK (and my local circuit) and I'd really miss it if it were to never recover from this. Surely some multi-billionaire can invest in this rather than another Premiership football club. |

The important thing being who Bernie is referring to when he uses the word 'we' here - its himself. Because the broader 'we' i.e. fans, teams, sponsors, drivers etc... - the real stakeholders and the reason Bernie is where he is - are practically unanimous in their plaudits for the British Grand Prix and do need it.

The business plan as quoted in the Pitpass article won't have changed dramatically between the original funding plan at the start of the year and the last ditch bond issue a few weeks ago. The total debt may have stacked up but the income predictions will be largely the same. Even if they had raised the money back in March and completed the rebuilt it's difficult to see how they could have remained solvent longer term. The recession my not have helped but even without that they were always on shaky ground. |

So Silverstone as still saying contract on offer is not commercially viable - come on Bernie if F1 teams are looking at reducing costs its about time you looked at reducing the costs of us fans attending GPs's - costs to watch 1.5hrs of racing is crazy and I have now stopped going as can't justify the cost for my family. It was great in the 70's and 80's when at least we had a full days track action as well as overtaking in a GPs. The teams want a British GP - so come on Bernie do a deal to safe this great event after this disaster
Lets hope Donnington is saved but I think it wil be struggle to get it back to reasonable state for racing - with losing the Moto GP as well as Super League, WSR etc what big events is left for them |

I was going to write that I can't believe Eccelstone is holding Silverstone up fopr a poxy £2m, but thinking about it I can
I think the best thing for Donington now is for Motorsport Vision or BARC to buy the track from Wheatcroft - or at least he hands over the lease to them.. Wheatcroft is in his mid 80s, at that age does he really want to be rebuilding the track and the business ? |

I think that means they have until midnight before the breach of contract is sealed. It definitely does not mean they have a chance of resurrecting the deal.
Read further and Bernie is quoted as saying that the deal is dead. He also says he won't be pursuing damages against DVLL. Makes me think it was all a set up to pressurize the BRDC at the least or get the GP into a foreign land at best. |

I think that it would be a good idea that Motorsport Vision took over donnington as they seem to be putting in a fair bit of money to many of the UK circuits.

It's also likely (from personal painful experience with bad debts) because he's well appraised of whats in the DVLL kitty (nil) and the cost of recovery outweighs the assets to be gained by pursuing it.

Gillett could do with taking some lessons on how to deal with the media. Since Donington was announced as the future home of the British GP, he's spent most his time 'bunkered', refusing to speak to the media, answer questions etc... Occasionally he'll surface to squeak that people are running down false tracks instead of seeing him to get chapter and verse, then refusing to answer any questions. There's an interesting insight from Edd Straw on the frustrations in dealing with Gillett in Autosport 15th October 2010. He's clearly an unpleasant individual and let's hope that when this is said and done he remains 'bunkered' for some time to come.
