I'm rooting for them, Team Colombia, JDC and Core to be competitive. It's good to have teams graduate through the ranks and run near the front. Getting whitewashed by the DPi teams doesn't do much to incentivize teams moving up and developing.

Nice sponsor pickup for Turner...hopefully that is enough to get them through a full season.

Researching to see what the market presence do Liqui Moly in America as outside of Bathurst 12, I don't see a whole lot from them stateside..

The likely inclusion of Kwamme and Yount suggests the sponsorship deal might not be as major as needed to cover a full season campaign.
Klingmann and Tomczyk are as formidable as they come though. |

Liqui Moly sponsored Mitchum Motorsports as a Daytona 1-off back in 2010 as a 30th anniversary promotion of their 1980 win with Joest. They did not place well.
The brand has been available in the USA for some time but really gained traction around that time with enthusiast shops and independents. The sales reps that worked the hardest and understood the USA market the most were pushing for something like this Turner deal for some time, and it got close a few times from what I know, but the LM director of marketing was more keen on stick and ball sport sponsorship. Liqui Moly sold to Wurth Group just last month. I would assume with the new ownership, perhaps the marketing dept was able to finally push this through. I'm sure the amount wasn't enough to float a full season, but I'm sure it was a sizable number. The competition in the oil supply business is absolutely insane. (I work as a purchasing manager for a small chain of European car specialist service/ performance centers). It's notable that Turner is switching to an exclusive deal with Liqui Moly, since they had been Motul sponsored on more than one occasion. |

For my fellow podcast nerds out there, Pat Long is on this week's The Smoking Tire Podcast (available wherever you get your podcast). What a cool dude.

The BOP wheel has spun again and sees:
Cadillac get 0.6mm smaller air restrictor, bringing it down to 31.6mm x2 in size. Adjustments in fuel capacity (+1 liter) and refueling restrictor (+0.5mm)*to compensate. Nissan DPi gets mid to high range power increase. Mazda gets slight body reduction but more revs, up to 8600 rpm. And a reduction of 15 kilos to 915, lightest in class. GTLM BMW gets a slight boost increase and loses 10 kilo, brings out to the Vette weight though. And gets 6 L increase in fuel tank. GTD Acura gets a few lead bars, plus 10 kilo. MB gets to give theirs to Acura, loses 15 kilos Audi (39 mm) and Lambo (38 mm) get 1 mm restrictor increase. Numbers include the 1 mm. Both also lose 3 L in the tank. Multiple other fuel tank increases in GTLM and GTD. https://competitors.imsa.com/sites/d...nd_gtd_bop.pdf |

It will be a good race to watch. If there isn't a good fight for the lead, with so many cars at least we will see fights, something that last year was unthought. |

Interesting stuff. Guess for the first time IMSA BOP dictates mandatory revlimiters for turbo engines and gibson in prototypes and for GTLM cars.
Some of them quite unrealistic, because everybody knows that C7R engine revs up to 6500rpm, what's the deal to set 6800 as reg. revlimit? |

More than one source suggests that gibson lmp2 revs up to 9000rpm.
Anyway I've checked that on gibson site is reported 555Nm as max torque release, while last year was 540Nm. Perhaps gibson supplied a 2018 evolution that has a slighlty improved torque curve, able to reach 600hp at 8000-8500rpm already so revlimit was decreased to 8750rpm to improve reliability and consumes. Just speculation. |

Anybody want to take a stab at making the race thread for Daytona? Less than a week away from things kicking off the 2018 season!

As a fan I dislike rev limits set by the sanctioning body - let them scream please.
And give Mazda a huge break if they bring back the rotary! |

forget about to see rotatory engines.... mazda effort in dpi program is really poor.... the car keeps on using an engine that is basically an evolution of the same motor used by lola-dyson in 2009 ALMS (don't know if it was used even before than that by other teams). If mazda was more interested, for sure they'd bring something new under the bonnet along all these years*.
*please don't mention that shamefull 2014-15 TUSC diesel. |

Most of mandatory revlimits are actually a joke.... at example 488GTLM revlimit is set to 7000rpm, but as shown by WEC/IMSA onboard, ferrari drivers upshift soon after 6000rpm. C7R doesn't reach at all that reg. revlimit. About ford gt, in last 2 season IMSA bop gave boost to the car up to 7800rpm, while ACO/FIA bop up to 7100rpm. Guess IMSA ford gt's should switch to ECU and gearbox setting usually used in WEC. Nothing really new for teams actually... just we races addicted can aknowledge some info we couldn't before. |

I'm surprised any of the DPis got more performance. Comparing them to the P2s at Roar, it didn't seem like they were at a disadvantage. The Cadillacs should have been slowed a lot more. Just saying... but I suppose they might want to make the manufacturers look good at Daytona. The privateers can get their break at some of the lesser races and everybody stays happy...
