J.R. Hildebrand signed a multi-year contract to drive the #4 National Guard car starting in 2011 but was released from his contract after this year's Indy 500. Ryan Briscoe and Oriol Servia now alternated until Briscoe was injured in Race 1 of the Toronto doubleheader. Since Servia wasn't at the race, Panther Racing got Carlos Munoz, the Indy Lights points leader at the time, to drive the #4 for race 2.

Since then Briscoe has been released and according to that Marshall Pruett article, ''Panther will look for a paying driver to occupy the Chevy-powered No. 4, unless additional sponsorship can be secured. '', neither of which has happened yet. I therefore think it's safe to assume that Panther Racing's future is somewhat up in the air.

The above still differs from your post that they had gone under.

Robin Miller's Mailbag has the usual discussion on drivers, apron and USAC. But how about this:

Bird's signed for a USC team according to Autosport. There's no mention of him running IndyCar also. I guess it's possible, but it's probably unlikely.
