Several sources from the ring suggest that the driver of the burning car has suffered fatal injuries
This has not been confirmed by the officials yet, let's cross fingers that it isn't true. |

Oh my god..it seems to be true, the officials have cancelled the trophy ceremonies
R.I.P. Edit: It was the driver of car #83, an Aston Martin Vantage. The accident happened at Bergwerk, the same section where Lauda had his big shunt. Terrible....I don't know what else to say. |

I've retyped the entry list into a more readable speadsheet - it isn't pretty & I was too lazy to put any accents or squiggly B's in properly, but it'll do for me.

Am I right in saying that what they were doing there was a full, complete and total change of V8 engine plus all ancillaries?

Another link about the driver (same story however) http://www.planetlemans.com/2010/04/...agic-accident/
It's really unfortunate that such a thing had to happen. The driver was 43 years old and probalbly living out a life long dream of being a racing driver, it must feel amazing to have be in a position he was, even though not on some professional factory team. I think this is a slight wakeup call, modern racing still holds many risks and dangers despite safety coming a very long way. From the sounds of it, he was fine from the crash, just like many racing drivers are in spectacular modern accidents. Possibly helmet design will be pushed even further to include built in air filters so an fatal event like this can be not as likely. |

The filters really wouldn't impede airflow if big enough, just filter out some of the harmful particles in the event the driver is stuck in a flaming tintop. I'm not talking some gas mask or respitator type thing, just something in the helmets air vents to help alittle. |

Here is an onboard lap during a VLN race with the Ferrari 430GT of Farnbacher Racing.

Wonderful video. Really good quality (watched in HD). Thanks!
All the Ferrari sees are Porsches and then an occasional Viper or BMW. The first part of the Nordschleife is really tricky with the lefts and rights and the constant gear shifting, and then the downhill part, about halfway looks treacherous. One bad move and bye bye to you. It's the same car from the LMS, it seems. When the car arrives it still has the LMS sticker on it. |

Ok, we have a nice little race coming up at Spa this weekend but the weekend after is the big one in the Eiffel mountains. What can we expect so far?
- Works BMWs - The Manthey Porsche train, including a hybrid - Porsche's sibling, the Audi - Will we see any Ford GT, Lambo? - Aston Martin will be parading their new and old toys - a few Z4s - What about the Sciroccos, the Toyotas, Nissans, etc? |

No Ford (GT. A couple of Foci and a Mondeo, apparently) and no Lambo. But finally another Ferrari, Farnbacher's F430.

I'm expecting big things from the Scirrocos, in recent VLN round those were fully capable of running with some of the slower Cup-Porsches. Rumor has it that they have about 400bhp by now!
