But it's positive to see SuperGT enacting their new rules pretty quickly. Guess the Japanese run their championship way better than the Germans. |

The Japanese run their championship about as good as anyone, really.

They DESPERATELY need Cadillac with the ATS (already comes with a 2.0 twin-turbo) and prob either Ford or Dodge to come on board. Cadillac would be a coup as they have been running the CTS in WC both with the 4 door early on and now the coupe, but heard rumors the coupe and wagon aren't selling well enough to carry on long. Ford is tough as Lincoln isn't really know as sporty and the similar sized Ford runs in NASCAR but they could run the MKZ (Ford Fusion/Mondeo) which also comes with a 2.0 turbo(eco-boost) engine. Dodge, through SRT, could bring either the 300 or 200 in if they haven't used all their racing money in SRT Vipers. They could go downmarket with the Charger as well but with Audi/MB/BMW I would assume the US manufacturers would go with their upscale brands as well.

Well before 2011 regulations, the DTM cars share tub structure but aero below the wheel central line is free. Engine development is free with configuration and power set. Suspension development is open as well. Now they are just spec cars with different shell.

DTM manufacturers, Audi and BMW, believe the proposed DTM America series needs a US manufacturer to go ahead.

Although Ford for example likes to race what they sell. Maybe there is an EcoBoost coupe to market... |

I'd expect more of GM and Cadillac to be honest. They're currently upping their game again against ze zjermans.

What is the longest time a new series has been proposed for before actually holding a race? We could set the record with this one. Press started in October 2010, looking at a 2016-17 date at the earliest race. (assuming there is one)

Superleague Formula was proposed a long time before it held a race... but maybe not 6 years.

This isn't going to happen. Not enough American interest in this sort of racing.

Fiat Chrysler only has USCC GTLM and NHRA. Ford only has Nascar, rallycross and some truck stuff (they will leave NHRA). I think they should be better candidates. |

That is a good point. Touring car racing hasn't been that popular stateside. That is unless you consider NASCAR a touring car series, and for all intensive purposes it fills the niche that DTM does in Germany.

Here's a weird thought...
So... we know that the DPs in USCR are rumored to be phased out completely for 2017. IMSA is handling USCR but also the DTM America. DTM cars are basically high tech silhouette cars... could it be that IMSA be phasing the DPs out to make way for DTM American cars? After all GM and Ford have their own "DP programs" right now. Could IMSA be funneling GM and Ford into turning their DP programs into DTM programs and that is the reasoning for pushing this DTM American plan back to 2017? 2017 is very convenient timing for American sports car racing (and yes I consider everything DTM does as sports car racing). Cadillac is GM... so the Corvette program for DPs can be turned into a Cadillac DTM car. The one running in World Challenge I can easily see being a DTM car. It almost has the same shape already On the ford side, they can just use a Lincoln MK-GT concept which I can also easily imagine as a DTM car DTM: Audi, Mercedes, BMW Super GT: Honda, Nissan, Lexus DTM-A: Lincoln and Cadillac? BTW DTM-A needs its own name... DTM-America just sounds dumb to me. In my opinion DTM is barely touring car racing. It's really GT racing as how well the rules unified with Super GT kinda proves that for me. If it comes to America I don't think it'll be seen as a "touring car" series but more as a prototype silhouette GT series which the states has been known to like (Trans-Am). If billed correctly I think a DTM can succeed in America. Especially if it's used as a stage for a "world fight" against cars from the other series in a global championship. IDK maybe the top 6 teams from DTM, DTM-A, and Super GT have like a world championship themselves. Last edited by Lizardfolk; 22 Feb 2014 at 17:35. |

That and the general public will not care one iota about "luxury GT" cars racing, they'll see it as some sort of upper class elite stuff. |

Besides, Americans do love their luxury cars. But you tend to see those types of people far more in the metropolitan east and west coast. You'd definitely lose the Heartland/Mid West and Southern populations but NASCAR seems satisfactory for those audiences already. Last edited by Lizardfolk; 22 Feb 2014 at 17:48. |

Mainstream domestic manufactures in hot-rodded versions of their big sellers(except for Japan because GTR/NSX), that'd equal the Camaro Z28, Mustang GT500 and Challenger SRT8. The only true "premium" brand in the two series is Lexus. |

Honestly looking at the 2014 pony cars, I would now agree that it's a better idea to use those. My original objection to them was that they have a very square body which wouldn't fit too well with the rounded DTM silhouette design. But the body is very rounded for the 2014 Camaro and Mustang: I can see these two as DTM cars as well. In fact, the Mustang has raced in 90s DTm before |
