Only reason we go, Grant...

Gutted, ****ed off, depressed etc etc. Only second time ever, have qualified and then not raced!

After the self induced mishap yesterday, was full of confidence at 0730 this morning when Paul Jenkins, fellow Delta FF2000 man and stalwart helper when chips are down, started assisting me with refit of the welded up sump. All went very smoothly considering how cold it was, and apart from having to loosen engine mount bolts off engine to get main bolts in, job was straightforward. After refilling with oil, the moment of truth, and engine fired up, but complete with a strange knock that sound like steel on aluminium........ Yes, the thorough welding job unfortunately was not clearing a big end as it went through it's movement. Ignoring advice suggesting that it would wear the high spots away, and that if we removed sump again the weld could be ground down, we admitted defeat. Even a chocolate brownie and cup of tea couldn't improve my mood for a while! But c'est la vie, as Delta would say, now home and got truck in loading position for Vallelunga. Engine saved and car will soon be ready for more action. Henry keen to have another shot if we are invited back, me too....

Just for you then John - seen here in pursuit of 'our' Peter Mallet this afternoon (who by the way drove it superbly for a great finish).

Andrew's 105 looked great fun in his race but sorry for Mike - saw him working hard on the car in the morning but didn't want to interrupt him. Loads of people commented on how well turned out the Escort was, little comfort to Mike I suppose.

Will try and post a few more of Tenthers in a couple of days - travelling home tomorrow, so probably on Tuesday.

GM trophy

Just watched the action on MotorsTV
Great cars, great action and a superb effort by fellow 10thers.

Well done MrM and that Needell fella - shame about the SC but 8th is OK

Scottish Classics class and overall runner up in 2014, maybe #61 can better the Swift/Jordan giant killing one day.

It is the Gerry Marshall trophy, and as he would say "if you can't win, be spectacular".

Actually although the driver could be better as Tiff proved with fastest lap and a climb from 15th to 2nd, I did have a problem in that the gearbox was turning to slush, hence when I went for third to re pass the Alfa, I got fifth, the Alfa took his line and I had no choice but to lift off, then instead of letting it run, I tried to correct it. From then on I was on the 1200rpm cycle and hung out to dry. We fixed it for today's race.

Full report to follow but mentions for Tony G, Delta (glad you took that drive), Cliff R, Gordon S, Mike B and all those who came to wish us well, or just tell me that it was the best sounding car on the grid, which it is.

Sorry to hear that Iain ... hope you got in and out and home eventually. Thanks for sorting the car after the poor test at Donington a month ago, car ran really well yesterday, and I'm chuffed to bits with 8th overall (even if I couldn't catch you one place ahead!), and first in my "self-declared Class B" - being a subclass for non-Ford-powered Juniors!

Looked like fun races for Andrew Davenall, Roger Wills in the last race, and Peter Mallett in the feature race, Rudolf having fun too, switching straight from the Group C Aston into the DKW Junior! Disappointed to see Burfs as a DNF, no idea why, and gutted for Mike Bell's tribulations ...

Great event, loved it! Thanks to all who made it possible.

True that you could have removed it and ground it down but as you know it's not a 5 minute job and by that time you had just about enough !
As for "it would wear the high spots away" you were right to ignore it, as it is a cast sump in all probability it would just have fractured again and released the oil on the track (if it had got that far) alloy filings also have a way of adhering themselves to oil pump gears and getting through oil filters !
So although it was a disastrous weekend it could have been a whole lot worse with an engine rebuild as well ! IMHO you made the right decision

Cheers, Gordon, I know it was the right decision but still didn't lift the mood!

Anyway, good to see you and many other tenthers at the event. Despite cold wind weather was bearable and at least dry! Fingers crossed car is accepted next year and we can have another go- maybe with an engine built to the specific race regs.......

Really bad luck, Mike. I see that Brian got 6th in Minnie, Peter did indeed drive well in final stint. Roger Wills drive was pretty mesmeric in the Lotus 17; in fact loads of good stuff from 10-Tenthers all round, although I'm pretty certain Rod could have built up a big advantage in the TVR rather than control a small lead which left him vulnerable to that very quick MGB which emerged from the pack.

Gary, thanks for pic. The two best cars in the race, I think, along with the Faberge Camaro.

Yesterday afternoon was able to see some of the races on the big (TV!) screen, as Motors TV televised it although they left before final race so was back to live stream which was very good anyway. A really good event, although I must confess that I would have preferred a couple of extra races rather than the demos which never quite do it for me even though they were pretty special cars on this occasion.

Driver of the meeting ...??

Sure there are plenty of candidates, but for me...

I do hope they gave Driver of the Meeting award to Simon Diffey ... for those that didn't see it ... he spun at St Mary's early in the race, ending up stalled on inside of track pointing the right way, but half on track half off, just at the point the ground falls away gently, being partly on grass it wouldn't roll, so he leant over the cockpit side to push the rear wheel to get back on the track and then bump-started it on the short hill ... awesome ... a self-push-start! Obviously he'd fallen to the back by now, but drove through the field back to 3rd place - he was unsurprisingly ecstatic when he climbed out of the car in Parc Ferme!

James, you are right; that was a Herculean effort by Simon D, getting the car going again followed by a splendid drive.

Burfs should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I ended up 8th out of 30 in qualifying - the first of the small engined cars.
We were the first race of the day on Sunday, enjoying being part of the entertainment for a grid walkabout before the race. I had a lightning start ending up 4th apparently as we rounded Madgwick, where I was"encouraged" off the circuit by a crowd of cars. I ended up joining in 12th, having a proper old scrap behind the Sabre Six of Simon D. Great fun, going well, until something oily gave way on the last lap - I pulled into the pit as they waved the flag - typical. Still had a blast! Love the #73MM
