GP.com's The Mole was suggesting that it's not Roger but Jay Penske, co-owner of Luczo Dragon Racing with a multi-billionaire, that's interested in F1, as well as Bobby Rahal

Going from a spec series to another is just a small step.

Not that it's exactly relevant anymore (except that it's an advantage of any series without Bernie and Max) but hasn't Bernie already said "screw you" to any number of "prominent, traditional venues in F1's heartland?"

From Murphy the Bear yesterday before the FOTA announcement:

Lola presser

Lola announced the withdrawal of its F1 application. Lola’s press release, according to the Bear’s best sources, supports Alfie’s understanding. Lola withdrew because it has agreements with the FOTA Eight – with whom it expects to participate in 2010 – and doesn’t want to appear on the list of accepted entries that Max is likely to publish Friday.

Maybe Max will have to drive himself next year.
Fast falling Max.

Satorian has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Given a list that would either be nearly empty or consist of no-names and never-heard-ofs for the average fan, I'm absolutely not surprised. Looking at the stock of teams still in with unconditional entries, F1 and FIA would look quite ridiculous.

Hmm, well, you say that, but TG must've looked ridiculous in 1996 with his entry list for the first non-CART Indy 500, and look at what's happened since

But then again, with Lola, N.Tech and seemingly Prodrive all pulling out, F1 is going to be weak next year. But then so will the new series - they'll only have 8 teams

Hmmm, they need to tell the new teams ASAP so they can develop their cars properly ... this is just turning into a stupid mess and no-one is winning.

Murphy reported rumors connecting Wirth Research's entry to one Penske or another...Roger, Roger Jr., Greg, Mark, or Jay. All rumor of course, but a few excerpts from May.

Quote:
Murphy was pretty much alone in reporting...that Wirth Research would be an F1 entry. Sure enough, a denial from Wirth was forthcoming...Well, there they are on the FIA’s list of “accepted teams” for the 2010 F1 Championship – if there is one. Who is “Manor Racing?” The Bear’s got no idea, but he did report it’s possible that a US racing (and auto industry) magnate – or his progeny – will turn out to be a partner.
Quote:
Murphy wasn’t particularly surprised when he got a call the other day, the gist of which was that Wirth’s expression of interest – whether or not it leads to an actual entry – is on behalf of a USA racing megateam to whom, of course, it will subsequently offer engineering, design, and manufacturing services.
I suspect all that is on hold for the time being...except for the teams that have pre-emptively withdrawn from the FIA F1 list of entries. Expect those to show up in association with FOTA, adding to that group's eight teams.

FOTA + Lola + N-Tech + Prodrive = 11

I think they'll also find a fourth team to join, bumping the total number to twelve.

No way will any of those join FOTA in a spending competition.

They weren't interested before, and they'll be even more uncertain now.

Rumours are that Campos may jump ship as well, according to Autosport

But yeah, like Martyn, I'll believe it when I see it

Lola is being cagey. Here are the options:

Status quo: no big deal: they weren't selected anyhow.

FOTA splits:

a. Option to join the new series; as they will be looking for new teams

b. Re-apply w FIA/CDC and low-ball the entry fee for a series desperate for cars to fill the grid.

Win - win situation for Lola
