From memory we went to the pub after the practice day, I think Ken Hensley racing were in there.(I was a big fan of the band Uriah Heap).
Slept in the car at the circuit and woke up to find the circuit etc covered in snow.

As long as the drivers were similar the Imp should beat the Anglia every time because of the weight difference.

Just gotta come in here, Mallory Park, 1973. Special Saloon Cars up to 1.litre.
Main protagonists: Terry McNally, Anglia. Ray Edge, Mini. plus, Martin Sellicks, Mini. Ian Blunt, Mini, and me, amongst others. A new lad was there too, named Geoff Farmer, Chrysler Imp.
I was pretty quick round Mallory Park, and during practice placed the Swish car on the front row, nothing unusual about that, except alongside me was this new bloke in his Imp. Cutting a very long story short.. We went off the line, and I led going into Gerrards, with I thought Jeff Ward behind me, and then Terry, and as we exited Gerrards, I looked down at the rev's and she was pulling 8.4, which is what I had to pull at that exit to be on or near a win. Going down the back straight heading toward the Esses, the car behind me came alongside, it was Geoff Farmer in his Imp! I was a bit shocked by this, as this meant he was pulling extreme revs going up towards the Hairpin, and as we came out of the Elbow he was there at the side of me, and I just couldn't shake him, in fact the Imp pulled away from me entering Gerrards again! That did it for me, I thought this guy isn't playing by the rules. He won by a good two cars lengths, and I went straight up to the Clark Of The Course, and protested his engine! Again cutting the story short, they stripped it there and then, and it was perfectly legal, and I was stuck with a rebuild cost. So to answer your question, yes a good driver in a lightweight Imp ( not that Geoff's was a spaceframe, it wasn't) will beat the Anglia. Incidentally, following that, Geoff and I became great friends. Even more so following his horrendous shunt at the same track the same season.

IIRC didn't Geoff damage his hand quite badly when the Imp turned over, although he's gone on to drive all sorts of exotic machinery since!

Geoff Farmer Shunt

Hi Alan, yes, this is well documented elsewhere, but again a short answer. Geoff and I had a chat prior to the actual race along with his Dad and his brother Butch, and I said, take it easy for a couple of laps matey, your a young lad and you have a very good car, but please take it easy as there is a lot to learn. He said that he would. Geoff, me and two others all exited the Elbow together, this was lap one.At the approach to the start finish line Geoff came up alongside us, so that was three abreast, but he was on the outside, almost on the grass, the front of the ultralight Imp began to lift, actually take-off from the track, the car turned itself over and the underside hit the underside of the Motor bridge, and came down upside down.
This I saw as I went past and into Gerrards. Then the red flags, and a Marshall tried to stop me from driving down to the scene, but couldn't. I helped at the scene and my wife Jeannette was there already, as she had been in the pits, which as you know are right there at the Motor bridge. Anyway, he was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary, where I spent most of that night. Without going into too much detail, Geoff is a fighter, and he pulled through with severe damage to his right hand. He's still racing, and I count him as a friend.

Hi Saddlebags, yes that was an awful scene to witness, especially for the people actually right there like you guys. I was ordered to move my car so that the ambulance could get in, which I did. As I have said before, I went round and sat at the Elbow watching it all from a distance. A bad day. The race was re-run afterwards, but quite honestly we didn't have much heart in it.

I have started a website on which i am listing entries to mainly club meetings from 1962 to 1979.
As my scanner has decided that it does not want to work anymore i am resigned to type them on the site .
If its of any interest to anyone here is the link.

http://www.historicraceinfo.webs.com/

At present i have from 1960 to 1967 so far which does include some 750/1200 Formula races, Redex Gold Cross races, Motoring News GT, ETC.

July 28th 1968

Pete, just to add a bit of meat to the post above, where you mention several of the names from 1968.Here are the programme notes from the 28th of July that year. I remember I was racing the old 1500 cc car, but look at the other names racing on that day.
Peter Hawthorne, Ken Costello,Roger Taylor, Mick Hill in the Anglia Jaguar ( my old bodyshell) and David Howes Ford Tasmananglia.
Now that was a list to conjure with.
