The fin on the Riley isn't part of the engine cover. It's almost like it's structural. The engine cover is a two piece cover that clips into the fin. |

Years ago, I was standing next to Bill Riley and we were looking at the Audi endplates that almost touched the rear panel but didn't. I said, "That's pretty cool the way they did that!" Riley answered, "I submitted the same idea several years ago and they rejected it. Interesting how some people get approved when others don't." Yikes! Wasn't expecting that! Anyway, it's great seeing Riley still coming up with innovative ideas. I'm really liking the new look and interpretations and variations in engine sounds. |

Nope. You had it right. WTR had some telemetry issues and didn't show on t&s but were well up the order
Mazda? Reliable? No better place to find out than a 24 hr race! it's in a place mine won't be able to go. |

On another note, I now like the #5 livery after seeing it on track. |

The first laps times analysis is:
Cadillac DPI 1:38:766 Ligier JSP217 mid-to-high 1:39 lap in November test Riley LMP2 1:40:714 Mazda DPI 1:41:117 http://results.imsa.com/Results/16_2...by%20Class.PDF The 2016 P2 Cars, with 100 HP less and the old harder Continental tires was: Ligier JSP2 Honda 1:38:889 Lola Mazda 1:40:376 http://www.racingsportscars.com/resu...016-01-31.html I guess the 2016 cars should be more than 1 second faster with the new Continental tires. I think it is a good start for the new DPI but there is a lot of development ahead. |

And I'll agree with you on the 5. Cars always look better on course at speed, no matter what. |

EVERYBODY in the Prototype class is trying out brand new equipment here. Now is the time to feel it out, find out it's quirks, figure out ways to address potential failures, etc - not the time to push the performance envelope and risk accidentally cutting short the test before you learn all the little things. |

I would think the Mazda has the same style of airbox and engine cover anyways?

New engines have around 600hp, 2016 WEC lmp2 engines had about 490-500, but as far as i know the imsa spec engines had something in the region of 550...So maybe we should not expect as much of a difference in lap time in Daytona as we would expect in Europe? |

They're already as fast as the best from this year's race on the first day. Improvements will surely be made. I think they might be able to get into the 37's, maybe we'll see tomorrow.

about max power:
up to 2013: max hp was in the range of 500-520hp for DP 2014: about 560hp for ford and GM DP motors, about 500hp for nissan/HPD/judd lmp2 cars, about 520-530 for the oak HPD ligier 2015: about 540-550hp for ford and GM DP motors, about 500hp for nissan/HPD/judd lmp2 cars, about 520-530 for the MSR HPD ligier 2016: about 540-550hp for ford and GM DP motors, 500hp for nissan (less than 500hp at sebring), 540-550hp for the 3.5 MSR and ESM HPD ligier top speed range didn't change a lot during years. More power was balanced by more downforce/drag This year, in theory new narrower lmp2 cars should produce less drag than old chassis. Because of that, without traffic, should be easy to hit 310km/h lap by lap. Pheraps mazda has a worse top speed because the engine developes less than 600hp, surely because of reliability issues (not surprised about that) |
