No idea where the link between RSR and Audi is coming from given the information in that post. Given Audi are shrewd sportscar operators of the highest order, I assume RSR is very very low on their list of teams to represent the four rings after the XJR mess.

From what you say, the new ALMS GT manufactureres must be Lotus and Aston Martin. Where's Ford and Dodge defending the stars and stripes?
Damn! They could have kept Mosport as Laguna Seca did. How about Canadian Tire Raceway at Mosport Park? You're right, sub-GTE is far more their speed. :P |

Found a couple videos of the Sebring test on YouTube if anyone’s interested, nothing particularly revealing but fun to watch if you enjoy that sort of thing. If you’re here I will assume you are interested…

So what do you guys think Ford will do over the next couple of years? Lambda's building a couple Ford GT GTEs but they probably won't last very long, and the car is already 8 years old. They're not just going to let Dodge and Chevrolet steal the spotlight with the SRT Viper GTE and the Corvette C7.R, will they?
If their rumored next-gen sports car (slotting above the 2015 Mustang?) doesn't have a Le Mans variant, you guys think we'll see an LMP1 program or something like that? They're running engines in Grand-Am, but no complete cars. Or do you guys think they'll stick to WRC and WTCC (and the other Block junk here in the US)? |

I doubt an LMP1 program, it just doesn't make any sense for a company like Ford. You would get little to nothing in ROI. I would not however be suprised to see a different variant of the V6 Turbo we'll be seeing in the Grand Am DPs in Indycar in the not so distant future. NASCAR WILL continue to be the center of their program and I expect more grassroots racing programs like the Ford Focus STR, Boss 302R ect as well as perhaps a Mustang GT effort in either Grand Am or ALMS in the future. So I think the future for Ford will be efforts in popular (Indycar only for the 500) series like NASCAR and Indycar (and perhaps an increased effort in DP) with plenty of grassroots racing in series like CTSCC, SCCA WC, NASA ect. I'm probably wrong, but I think their WRC and WTCC programs are funded in Europe and not straight from the Ford Factory. |

For example, would you say the Viper is as well known or popular now, as a concept, as it was a decade ago in the height of its GT programme? |

Viper, Corvette, etc. race mostly for image, and partially for some road-relevant development. Would Ford jump in? Probably not. They don't market a car that competes with Viper and Corvette; Mustang competes with Challenger and Camaro and even then is about half their price.
None of them are in this game to sell a whole lot of cars. When you have something as niche as Vipers and Corvettes (even if Corvettes are a bit more common given their relatively lower cost) that demand a lot of money, it's a small market. I'd love to know the number of people who turn on an ALMS race, see Corvette run well, and decide to go buy one...and even more so, I'd love to know the people who are considering a Porsche or Ferrari, see Corvette beat them, and buy a Corvette instead. I guess people with a lot more money (as they'd have to be to buy these cars) would be more willing to just buy a spur-of-the-moment car, but for now, it's all image. Chrysler and GM have decided they want to have this performance/racing image with their "supercar" and use it to reflect on their entire brand as a whole to those of us who are more in the price range of a 200 or a Malibu (neither of which I would even look into personally). Ford's approach to marketing seems very centered on fuel economy and the durability of their trucks (though they hype the Ford F150 as class-leading in fuel economy, too). If they ever got involved in ALMS, it'd have more to do with EcoBoost than flashing some muscle against the other manufacturers. They didn't exactly follow Chevy to IndyCar, for example. |

Despite them only racing in the ALMS most of the time, the Corvette has gradually started finding itself in the showrooms of European Chevrolet car stands.
Here in Portugal, the Vette is now sold, and is displayed in a stand in downtown Lisbon. The fact that they only run in ALMS and once a year in Le Mans, with forays in FIA GT categories (and also ADAC Masters with Callaway), has meant a lot of exposure, nationally and internationally, without forking over a bundles of money on World Championships via the factory teams. |

Does anyone know what's going to happen with car numbering at Sebring? Will the 0x & 0xx numbers be in effect?
If so, what happens to the Level 5 car already numbered #055? #0055?!?! |
