It's great to see them pick up guys from sports car racing instead of bringing in more overpaid F1 drivers.
Vernay would deserve the seat as well, he was in the 908 pretty much when lightning stroke. |

So the only Porsche factory drivers are the ones already confirmed.
Great to see some nice drivers in the mix. |

So if they're announcing their drivers today, surely it'll end the Mark Webber speculation?

They still need 3 more drivers... or 6 ;-)
And they still have quick and capable guys in their GT line-up (Lieb, Lietz, Pilet) I think the flow of announces is not finish and the smart-buzz creating communication of Weissach will give us more information through the year. It also mean they will intensively test before the end of the year. |

I'd like to see what JK Vernay could do in a P1 Porsche. Pretty good young driver.

It wasn't exactly a difficult jump to make but I called the above six drivers months ago. |

I wonder if they end up stealing another Rebellion driver (yes, Heidfeld). Probably not a difficult thing to do; does Rebellion actually pay them or is it the other way around? And probably a no-brainer for a driver too...
I really doubt Jani's contract was signed today, so this small piece of information (well, the test pics were a bit bigger piece) one by one seems like a purposeful PR tactic. |

There's nothing to stop him doing everything under a pre-contract and then signing the actual deal when all parties were present at Le Mans. But then again you are the forum cynic and it's your job to question these things

Not saying this PR tactic is wrong, obviously puts them in the headlines more often. |

And yeah the drip, drip feed of information keeps them in the press. Let's see what they announce next. |

Don't think it does make sense to bring 3 cars. Obviously Porsche know their way around the place but they've still got a car to develop so 2014 will very much be their learning year. No point blowing your money on 3 cars in an attempt to win.

I suspect that Porsche will challenge for the victory right from the start. The car is ready and already testing. That is a big difference with Peugeot and Toyota who only started testing in January when they returned to LMP1.

Porsche know their history. Very very big ask to win in your first year of the project, especially against two other manufacturers. I hope Porsche are going to be realistic.
They can hope for a win all they like and aim for it, but better to spend money developing the car for '15 than going all guns blazing for a win in '14. No substitute for racing. |

With Bernhard, Dumas and Jani Porsche has very experienced LMP1 drivers.
They have plenty of data and strategic experience for Le Mans with the 911. So they only need to get some race experience in the WEC rounds before Le Mans (e.g., Spa + Silverstone) and work on their reliability in private tests. Maybe they can not win Le Mans in their first attempt, but they can surely get on the podium. |

Reliability in tests is one thing, but Audi found out the hard way in the R15 that there's only so much you can learn in a private test. |

Ok, people, now it's official: Mark Webber will join Porsche to drive its new LMP1 in WEC and Le Mans. I think Audi's days are over...

audi's days over because of webber presence? He is a specialist of F1, but I don't think he will be fast and consistent as lotterer, treluyer and duval in an lmp1. The most dangerous porsche driver for audi is bernhard, that was one of the best drivers of audi line-up in the recent past.
