I'm also wondering. With the Civic FK8 going out of production and out of the showrooms in 2021, will 2026 or 2027 be the final year it's eligible? |

Would be nice to have a talent like Smalley in the series. We’ll see which series he’s going to be in

How does the budget for a BTCC seat compare to a GT3 or GT4 seat in a team of similar calibre on the respective grids?

If Smalley is confirmed in British GT today then that really does just leave Gamble as the only name left in the running for WSR , barring something very left field happening. If it's not Gamble then I'm totally stumped as to who it could be.

Smalley was the front runner for the WSR seat, but some sponsor clashes were causing some issues. No doubt we’ll see if they’ve been resolved or not by the announcement later.

Looks like the smart money is on Gamble for WSR, unless there’s a surprise in store

As for Gamble, it'll be interesting to see. It would be fun to see a reunion with his Amigo Seb Perez in a GT3 car, the pair shared Sebs 1960s 2.0L 911 last year in historics. |

Interesting that the WRC is abandoning hybrids in an effort to help reduce costs from 2025. I would say the WRC has heavier direct manufacturer involvement over the BTCC, so perhaps it weakens the argument the BTCC needs to keep them to interest manufacturers.

I don't follow WRC so am unaware of how the hybrid system works in their cars. However, I think that I am right in thinking that the hybrid system in the BTCC is only used as a very temporary "go faster" element for a relatively short part of a lap. As far as the world outside of motorsport is concerned, a hybrid element of a vehicle is considered to be a "green" initiative, so is it really necessary in the BTCC? It is purely a way that TOCA devised to replace the weight penalties that were applied to drivers doing better than their peers. It is not device that is intended to help save the planet. I don't object to the introduction of the system, but it should be recognised for what it is, and that's not what motor manufacturers are taking into consideration. TOCA even had to stop the one "green" bit which was that the hybrid had to be solely used when entering and leaving the pits. |
