I missed the "bump day" and sounds like we need some kind of package to have 40 plus cars entered for this deal again.
Palou to the point. Good for him!! |

I wish these racing drivers would show some emotion when they achieve something.
Despite that well done Palou. Now, time for some Tapas. Last edited by Adam43; 21 May 2023 at 21:54. |

Gotta wonder how much it would take to field 5 or 6 extra teams for the testing and bump day. But it sounds like just 34 is all the money that's out there for Indy. Would be nice if there was extra money to have the big teams run a qualifying Lights driver and give them a shot

Don't think any of us had Graham on the who's left out bingo card. The comments on Racer about kicking Legge out of the car are probably starting already so he gets in but he didn't get the points for the car I don't think so that's just a way to annoy sponsors. Will be interesting if United Rentals go down the field and knock on D&R for some presence in the field or they try to work out something to get on another RLL car more, think they have a big on site event for staff

Imagine the backlash for kicking out the only female driver in place of a male driver that she already beat? I can't imagine any sponsor would want their name associated with that bad press? |

Guessing that the non functional weight jacker may have cost Graham a start in the race. I was surprised to see Harvey improve on his last run. Impressed at Bobby leaving the decisions about the 30 car to its crew. I'm guessing that he could have stipulated that Harvey make his last run with enough time remaining for Graham to counter. I was amazed to see that Harvey's engineers came up with a setup change that could improve on the earlier run despite the heat soak on the engine. I can't remember that being done by any other team recently.

10000% agree there, but the idiots on Racer won't care cause she's temp driver. They already have Harvey out for Indy so Graham and United can run. No chance unless they want to let Harvey go after that, can't see him wanting to be in the car if he's not in the car after that run

It was all very exciting. I enjoy it very much. Harvey improving on that final run does blow all of the "You need to cool the car down every run" stuff out of the water..

Are the rules still the same as decades ago, when a driver change just moved the car to the back of the starting field? Even if so I think it would be complicated to make a deal with the sponsors involved. While there is little to lose in terms of starting position with a driver change in either the Legge or Harvey car, I'm wondering how those cars' sponsors could be accommodated.

That was the most surprising development of the whole day for me. Given what we have been told about heat soak in the past it was totally unexpected. I would like to know just what is and what is not allowed for the cool down procedure. Announcers stated that cooling fans are more limited during qualifying but what about shading, dry ice, etc.? Some of the cars had engine covers off after their first run but they weren't shaded. A chrome plated wrench laying out in today's sun will get so hot that you can't hold it. I'd like to know just how cool the engine and cooling system needs to be at the start of a run to produce the best run. |

It didn't look like they let any of the F1 style matched cooling fans and dry ice setups. Looked the the smaller DeWalt shop blower vs the larger leaf blower type used in F1 on Graham's car
MP's video of what the major use your tools calls do https://youtu.be/5UYtRNsnHvY Think more than heat soak Harvey's run was more of the team giving him when to move what. His first run Hinch called out why his hands weren't moving to adjust anything and that's smooth but not fast. And think they adjusted the car to throw something at it and trimmed the front wing a lot after his cool down, I counted at least 6 turns when I thought to pay attention And I think heat soak would be far more important for Fast 12 guys than the LCQs and Harvey didn't need much to get in |

I don't ever recall seeing a front spring change with 15 minutes to go in a qualifying session as was done on Harvey's car. A big swing at the setup and it worked out on the last run. |
