DSc is saying that the Porsche is testing at Estoril and is thought to be lapping in the 1.30's, which compares to 1.28.8 from the Gulf Audi in 2001.
To me if this is true and this is an early test, then with some development then this car could well be mixing it with the LMP1 cars. |

the biggest question for LMP2 assuming it's not just Porsche sailing off in to the distance, is whether an AER engine would be a better bet (ignore LeMans discuusion for the sake of brevity and think 6hr/1000k races).
This might be the one other competitive advantage a privateer team could steal over the Porsche might |

Take one race car, apply tangerine paint and Jagermeister stickers, stand back and admire - brilliant. It has worked perfectly on every car it has ever been applied to, from Group 5 BMWs and Porsches, through 962s and onto DTM BMWs and Alfas. A timeless classic. First racecar I ever engineered was in tangerine and orange has featured prominently on my current team's cars for years. By strange coincidence, the primary colour of my day job's company is also orange - though that wasn't my reason for joining it... Sorry, digressed a bit there! I'm increasingly enthusiastic about this new Porsche - there's a certain comfort in knowing that LMP2 will soon be invaded by top teams (a lot of the current GT2 teams, I guess) running what we all know will be a fast and reliable car. What will be interesting is the effect that will have on the GT2 class in terms of numbers and potential new teams - will more people be tempted to move up if they can see that they'll no longer have to face the big guns with the huge budgets? |

I see on another thread that it will be Maassen/Luhr/Collard at Petit Le Mans.

Is Penske entering one or two cars at PLM? And might there be any room for Hornish and Castro Neves in the squad?

The car looked great as it moved around the track. And I agree with MulsanneMike, great engine sound. I think the other P2 teams are really going to have to step it up (along with some P1 teams).

If the P2 Porsche (and the new Honda engined cars etc come to that) is as quick as everyone is assuming it is going to be and therefore challange some P1 cars. are the ACO going to want to restrict it to keep 'clear water' between P1 & P2?

as of now, i can't see Porsche challenging someone like Audi when they come back to LMP1, but some LMP2's will be able to challenge privateers in LMP1, which i can't see the ACO really caring about.

The ALMS site is reporting that the new Porsche will be called the "RS Spyder" and that Luhr-Maassen-Collard will be the drivers in PLM and Luhr-Maassen for Laguna Seca .
Nice name too !!! |
