Yo Bruddas!
![]() Just interested to know what ya thought of the last GP without the usual tyre changes? Do you think it's an improvement or like me do you think it sucks? I think the new tyre rules mean the drivers have to change their style too much. And I don't understand how it cuts costs anyway, because don't Michelin and Bridgestone supply the tyres for free anyway? ![]() |

It is not a cost cutting measure. The teams still take the same amount of mechanics, the same tyre heating and wheel changing equipment, yet it all sits about collecting dust when a car pits during the race.
It looks bloody silly to the casual viewer, tuned in last year to see wheels changed in quick time, tunes in this year to find the same amount of people stood around the car doing nothing. What should be done is reduce aero grip and increase mechanical grip, cars can get closer without losing aero grip and change tyres during every stop. Cars can get closer to each other without the need for huge amounts of downforce, fumbled pitstops jammed wheelnuts etc. It all means more entertainment. |

I think it is sensible to have no tyre changes - after all I don't change my tyres every few miles.
The tyres stood up well - and we'll see drivers less cautious as time goes on. |

i think its crazy and there could be saftey issues later in the season with a lot of accidents plus you just miss something about the pit stops there not as exciting as before

Since we already have a thread on the new rules, I've merged them... (again)

Why would there be safety issues later in the season and not now? |

Because everyone was ultra cautious in the first race, and most finished with tyres that looked like they'd just been scrubbed in properly. As the season goes on they'll push the tyres harder and harder. After all, if they are used to their full potential in the race, they should be completely useless by the time they get to parc ferme. But then, not all the drivers will be able to judge it that accurately and then we'll start getting tyre failures during the race :-(

I guess, there were too many unknowns or rather firsts at melbourne: with practically everything being diff, the drivers might have been too defensive or rather conservative....and even at Sepang, they wud be a bit cautious (now that everyone is rihtly worried over the heat there);
We shud start seeing the drivers to start pushing harder and harder from the European season. Cant wait till Friday... ![]() |

Won't they just bring harder tyres for those races. Each track is different and they bring different compounds for each race. They may well get a Silverstone wrong too. They have two chances too, with each team getting two compounds.
Malaysia is likely to be one of the worst in terms of heat - so we'll see soon. |

Some people seem to think the one tyre rule was introduced to cut costs!...when in fact it wasn't, it was to reduce the speed...which it has done! The 'cost'...is that it's now even harder to overtake than before, and the only real driver skill involved is being careful not to lock-up and flat spot the tyres! However Alonso's press-on aggressive style had no real detramental effect on his tyres that we could detect.
As regards the two race engine rule...I don't see what that achieved at all!..,other than an unecessary huge extra expense one year before those gorgous V10's are due to be scrapped anyway! What a pointless rule that was!...BAR's creative thinking in retiring their cars just hi-lighted the nonsense of the system anyway. Last edited by Rennen; 17 Mar 2005 at 00:16. |

And if the teams new about it why didn't they demand for it to be clarified instead of waiting to see who would be the first team to use the loophole. |
