Of course I refer the the Cowangie Kid, Larry Perkins. He was winner of the 1971 TAA Formula Ford 'Driver to Europe' Championship, 1972 Australian Formula 2 Champion, 1975 European Formula Three Champion, started a dozen or so F1 GP's in 1976/77 and was the final Rothmans Series F5000 champion in 1979 in an Elfin MR8-Chev.(having finished 2nd and 3rd in that Championship in the preceding two years.) He also drove at Le Mans, in 1988 where he was close to a podium finish, managing 4th overall driving for Uncle Tom (Walkinshaw) |

$14 for the best seats in the house, and the look of the place was still desolate.
The SMH article thought it was amusing that they were saving fuel in the oil rich zone they were racing in..... I guess that 'saving fuel' explains why no-one seemed to run the full lap length, with most straightlining the corners and using the run off areas as short cuts, particularly the leaders at the end. No doubt running at limiter speeds behind the Safety Car for ages saved them a few litres as well.
