Besides the M-sport, is there any other customer team that purchases the GT3? And I haven't heard of them joining the Blancpain Endurance or Blancpain Sprint next year, which is bad news.

Can they join Blancpain as I'm guessing they will have some Breitling sponsorship. Wonder if Blancpain will allow that to happen,

It'll be bold for customer teams to step into a new car in such a rush. Different from another VAG attempt in GT racing, the R8 LMS, which is effectively a Gallardo Evo, the Continental is based on Phaeton Platform, which is a front wheel based luxurious car. Thus I'm not surprised at all the Bentley guys having problem with weight. What's more, they have to realign the engine to suit the weight distribution and modify it into a rear-wheel drive car. In a word, lot's of work required and it's great to finally see it on track.
In addition, if they stick with the 4.0L twin turbo engine, the BoP and reliability will be crucial. The other two turbo cars, the MP4-12C and GTR, the former is baffled with reliability even though it has the best straight line speed other than 911 GT3-R, and the latter is constantly lack of pace in the JRM hands. Hopefully, the M-sport guys can manage this. |

Continental and Phaeton are longitudinal engine AWD cars, like most Audi production cars are--in fact, they're both based on the last generation Audi A8 floorpan.

I suspect that a lot of the weight of the Continental GT is due to excessive sound deadening and perhaps thicker, heavier exterior panels and chassis. In this class, the car has to be as soft, comfy, and quiet as possible, and then an oversize engine will make up for all that weight. Get rid of all that sound treatment ballast, make the chassis parts and exterior panels from a lighter, thinner metal parts, and the car will become reasonably light.
In the end, the GT2 and GT3 rules obviously allow some extreme "modification". In fact, factories don't start from a production car and then modify it. They build a one-off chassis. Pretty much nothing in it has to be production based, except for matching loosely the architecture and the proportions of the original car. In the engine compartment, very few things besides the engine block are "stock". In case of GT2 Corvette, not even the engine block is "stock" as there is no production Corvette with a 5.5L engine. In the end, GT racing is not about how good is the production car. It's about how good is the race car that the factory builds. So a factory can build an extreme franken car, and later the race organizers will de-tune the engine power so that the ass-engined naturally aspirated Porsche 911 with only 4.0L of displacement could still keep up, and then everyone will be happy Last edited by JacobP; 2 Dec 2013 at 06:20. |

This car is around the dimensions of the Nissan GTR in street trim, but less tall. Theres no doubt it will compete well with all the development behind it. And that engine sound is definitely unique.

As long as the maiden sale brings good results, the second customer team may be just around the corner. Great Job!

It was a good race (in two 6 hour parts) in Abu Dhabi. The Bentley sounded great and went well (with performance seeming to vary a lot according, presumably, to which driver was in at the time. I think it was fourth at the end. Had a suspension failure for the last few laps but continued without a spring!

There is also the possibility of Dyson running a Bentley in TUSC or Pirelli World Challenge. Anyone heard any more about this?
'Coincidentally, all three of Bentley’s factory drivers, Guy Smith, Andy Meyrick and Steven Kane, have driven for Dyson Racing in the past.' http://sportscar365.com/imsa/tusc/dy...-in-late-2014/ http://sportscar365.com/gt/world-cha...ntinental-gt3/ |

Hopefully they run it in its full glory, not with a spec wing and tire combination.

Interesting to see the list of drivers tested by Bentley in this article:

Good to see Michael Meadows moving to the international arena. The GT GB is getting small for him.

Bentley factory drivers line is a disgrace. You go on. You set one foot in front of the other, and if a thin voice cries out, somewhere behind you, you pretend not to hear, and keep going. So very much M-Sport!
