Men objectify women, and women objectify men. It happens. Is it the worst thing in the world? I’d say no. This is just a form of modelling, and you have to be quite a radical feminist to condemn the modelling industry as a whole.

On face value, this is a woman promoting the glamour of F1; something that has been done for decades. However, this is also her business.
I'm ambivalent. On one hand, using women to promoting car racing and/or the car industry seems dated and smacks of sexual exploitation. On the other hand, this is something she has chosen to do and therefore any notion of sexual exploitation is under her control. |

Well, the words 'sometimes' and 'often' were used, so no, not a given......

i don't particularly care either, but it is peak australia, and they've been doing this "race ambassador" thing for ages, so whatever.
still want a hot bloke doing the same job though. someone has to flirt with the wives of the guests she'll be flirting with (it's literally her job description). |

To me it goes to show that feminism and the feminist order of suppressing masculinity and men is having an effect and some of the men are compliant in this by thinking they can ward off attacks from these crazed women by parroting all the talking points and shaming beautiful women. |

As of course it was the grid girls' decision to do it.

Could also argue that things are getting a little bit weird if we need sexy women to stand around and flirt with men to make things look glamorous. Many would see that as sleazy and inappropriate.
It's not shaming beautiful women. It's finding the entire situation weird. If this wasn't an F1 grid, and let's say, a random office where one company is trying to sell the other company staples and A4 paper, then we'd all think it was strange. But because it's F1 we pretend it's glamorous. It's not - it's bloody weird. |

Agreed. Applied to anything else and it'd be weird. Drape a woman over a photocopier or an office desk and there would be a lot of confused people. Instead, with motorsport we've normalised the BTCC cameraman who verges on indecent with his moves.

I may be old-fashioned (God knows, it’s been said before) but I really can’t get worked up about this. These women are presumably mostly professional models. They use their looks to make a living. Good for them. Where is the mischief? Grid boys, sure. Fill your boots. If there’s a market for it (and I suspect there isn’t). This is not the greatest challenge facing Formula 1, not by a long way.

I fail to see the connection between thinking that’s weird and “getting out more”. I’d actually like to “stay in” more tbh, I spend far too much time out of the house. Haven’t yet found anyone in Lycra in Tesco trying to sell me bread though. Baked goods could use more glamour, that’s what I say!

personally dont see the connection either. arguably the two biggest consumer products being advertised on the grid are cars and alcohol...two industries that are rapidly moving away from the 'mens only club' style of advertising. car commercials are family friendly and beer ads dont have girls in bikinis anymore. most business are doing the same...western world is changing and men dont have the advantage in purchasing power anymore. its not liberalism, progressivism or some other left wing conspiracy...this is straight up capitalism. business moves to where the money is and F1 is no different. evolve or die gentlemen! |
