I hear that Operation Yellowhammer has been suspended, which of course it should be as we’re not leaving this week. But I didn’t realise that the M20 ‘Operation Brock’ nightmare had been put back in place ready fo the 31st, and now has to be dismantled again.........

I see that the commemorative Brexit 50p coins (dated 31st October) are to be shredded and melted down after the latest UK departure delay. Perhaps next time it will be better to mint them after we've left?

Sounds like the M25 on any normal day. And we're still in the EU. |

There's no "may exist" about it. The surplus (ie the net amount that we pay to the EU), already factors in the "existing EU funded things" of course - we pay the EU about £13Bn, and get back about £4Bn. That £9Bn net contribution covers a heck of a lot red tape........... https://fullfact.org/europe/our-eu-m...ee-55-million/ |

Tell you one good thing that's come about during this latest Brexit c..k up.
I applied for my passport to be renewed online last Wednesday and have just had an email from them saying it's on it's way and I'll have it within 2 days. I hung on and hung on, hoping when I renewed it I would get a blue GB one, but ran out of time and as I'm going away in November, so bit the bullet. Talk about good service. |

Yes all that red tape you know. Frankly I don't care what colour the passport is and I think it was daft to make it an issue. But the services like this are becoming more efficient.

Last time I changed my passport it was sent to Dusseldorf! Took two weeks which I thought was pretty good. I was living in Qatar at the time.

Lunch in Qatar, passport in Dusseldorf? Surely it.would have been more use in Qatar.
I agree about the improved efficiency of government services. I tax all my vehicles online. I enter up my accounts into the approved form online. It just "happens" and is impressive. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk |

Mrs V has just found the need to renew her passport and decided to look at doing it on-line. It ran out nearly 10 years ago and she has misplaced it. Has the passport been lost or stolen? was one of the questions, with just yes or no options. As her answer had to be 'yes' (well, it' lost but of no use to anyone because it's out of date). More questions ensued and she received an email to say someone would be in touch within 24 hours (yeah right!). The phoned her at 10 past 8 last night and sorted things out, we weren't expecting that sort of efficiency!

...and that of course is because the admin, production and despatch of passports (but *not* the vetting and authorisation) was put out to the private sector around 20 years ago. Some 4000 public sector clerical workers were TUPE'd to the private sector and now that work is done a great deal more efficiently by a quarter of that number.

So an election on December 12th for the UK.
All the electioneering and chest-beating and accusations will probably dent the "Christmas Spirit" during campaign time. Don't know that it will end up providing some certainty but hopefully for everyone, it does. |

My guess is that it will result in another hung parliament, with a 4-way split between the Tories, the Brexit Party, Labour possibly in alliance with the SNP and the LibDems, with a sprinkling of independents thrown in for good (or maybe that should be bad?) measure.
A recipe for chaos because none of them will be able to create a coalition. |

Boris FTW. I'm eagerly anticipating a working majority to let the country get on with life and prosperity outside of the suffocating EU. I will be doing my little bit to make it happen. The doomsayers may like to ponder on this.
