Best Porsche drivers in LMP1 program are Dumas and Bernhard. They've won Le Mans in 2010, together with Rockenfeller and Audi. Webber will be a good addition, but will need time to get his best from himself in a so competitive and different cathegory.
Jani is very well experienced in P1, and will be of the match since the beginning. I would like to see Heidfeild in Porsche, would be a very good driver to join with a so competitive team. I would not be surprised to know Porsche is planning to engage him... |

I instead of webber (or other F1 drivers) would like to see marc lieb on the lmp1 program. In my opinion he is the best porsche gt driver, he is also a porsche motorsport engineer. Will be interesting to see if a gt specialist is extremely competitive also in an lmp1.

He's a gearbox specialist. There are a lot of wonderful drivers in GTE class, but Lieb is surely one of the top in class. I don't know if I prefer him or Lietz... it's a great challenge. On the Ferrari front, no doubt: Bruni is the best of the red army. The second is Vilander. Fisichella has improved very much, but I still prefer Bruni by far. Malucelli is not yet on the same plain of his teammate, while Bertolini is far away from his Maserati highlights. Coming back on Porsche drivers army, I expected something more from Bergmeister. He was the king of the ALMS GT class, but has not yet shown his value in WEC. Pilet is another great driver, very fast and reliable. But we can say the same for all works drivers of Aston and Corvette... The courtyard of GTE class is full of champions, and potential champions. I hope to see the large part of them in P1, one day (but it's not possible due to the age of some of them...). Last edited by Dario911; 27 Jun 2013 at 14:59. |

Judging from the last few races in the 991RSR, Pillet has consistently been the quickest driver (in the current car). He was quickest of the Porsche drivers at Le Mans in sectors 2 and 3 and Lietz was quickest in sector 1 (if my memory serves me well).
Pillet has been very quick since last year and is especially quick in the 991. This may be because he has played a big role in the development of the car. He also has single seater experience (F3) |

Much as I hate to admit it, I have to agree with Dario911 on this whole Mark Webber thing and sportscars. He did one whole season in sportscars driving for Mercedes before he did his flying at Le Mans. In 1998 he did 12 races for Mercedes with 5 first place finishes, 2 seconds, 2 thirds, 1 fourth, 1 eleventh and 1 DNF (Le Mans). Not too shabby. My guess is that he will have plenty of time to get reacquainted with sportscars and be plenty fast next year when the season begins. On the other hand, that certainly won't end Audi's reign quite yet.

I am curious to know who the remaining Porsche drivers will be, I would not be surprised if an American driver (or somebody well known in the USA) was used for marketing reasons but they will still have to be a top driver.

Class video from Porsche. A good day for them and sportscar racing in general.

The most important thing is for Toyota to stay and to remain competitive as otherwise, I fear, it will be the VW group marketing machine that will decide who wins.

JJ Letho and Soper have a career can be compared with Webber's career? That's a great news!

Lehto - for me - was a driver with talent that could have exceeded any of the recent Finns - he was wasted.... If you had watched him in the Mac in the wet at Le Mans in '95 you'd understand why he was held in such high esteem. Soper too was a top drawer driver. Let's not fool ourselves, having been a moderately successful F1 driver isn't necessarily going to impress top guys with years of experience in prototypes. As I've said before, MW is good, but he starts with a slate rubbed clean in sportscars.....

Talent will win out in the end. Give Lotterer enough time in Vettel's RB and he'd get close, IMO. And vice versa.

Well, i forgot that lotterer is a FN champion too, so he will adapt first to an F1 than vettel in a sportscar. At least in theory.

Mark Webber will retain his Red Bull Sponsorship, so expect a Red Bull livery on at least one of the Porsches. By the way, has Porsche decided the order of the lineups? Will Bernhard and Dumas be in the same car or will they be split up with Webber and Jani? |

If Bernhard and Dumas are doing the bulk of the testing than it makes sense to split them up across the cars. That's what Porsche have done with the GTE and I strongly believe they'll do it for the P1.

Not very indicative the 2013 split strategy. After le mans race they won't never sit again in the 991 (at least for this season).
